πŸš€ ScopeSaathi AI: Your AI-Powered Freelance Project Scope Assistant

Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 2: Side Hustle Submission πŸ’Έ

This is my submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 2: Side Hustle.

πŸ’‘ What I Built

Freelancers often receive project briefs that look simple at first but contain missing requirements, unclear expectations, and hidden risks.

These problems can lead to misunderstandings, unexpected extra work, and difficulty estimating project scope.

ScopeSaathi AI is an AI-powered assistant designed to help freelancers understand client project briefs before starting work.

It analyzes a project brief, highlights potentially missing requirements, identifies possible risks, and helps freelancers prepare professional follow-up questions for clients.

The goal is to help freelancers communicate clearly, define project boundaries, and approach client projects with greater confidence.

✨ Key Features

πŸ“ Project Brief Analysis: Review client requirements and organize the important details.

πŸ” Missing Requirements Detection: Highlight information that may need clarification before work begins.

⚠️ Risk Identification: Identify potential scope-related issues, unclear deliverables, and possible misunderstandings.

πŸ’¬ AI-Generated Follow-Up Questions: Prepare useful questions to ask clients before accepting or starting a project.

πŸ“‹ Scope Clarity: Help freelancers organize requirements and understand what needs further discussion.

🌐 Web-Based Access: Use the application through a browser without setting up the complete development environment locally.

The AI provides suggestions for review. Freelancers should verify the results and confirm requirements directly with their clients.

The central idea is simple: Understand the scope before you start the work.

The project is publicly available on GitHub for developers who want to explore the implementation, learn from the code, or contribute improvements.

πŸ› οΈ How I Built It

ScopeSaathi AI uses a web-based application architecture with a Python backend and a browser-based interface.

The project includes:

Python: Backend application logic.

HTML, CSS, and JavaScript: User interface and interactions.

OpenRouter API: Connects the application to a selected AI model.

Render: Hosts the deployed web application.

Git and GitHub: Version control and public source-code hosting.

The application is designed to turn unstructured client briefs into useful, organized information that freelancers can review before beginning a project.

πŸ”“ Why Open Innovation Matters

Open innovation gives developers an opportunity to experiment with AI technologies, learn from existing tools, and build practical solutions for real-world problems.

For ScopeSaathi AI, AI is not included just to generate text. It is used for a specific purpose: helping freelancers understand project requirements and prepare for better client conversations.

  1. Practical AI for Freelancers

AI can help organize lengthy project descriptions, highlight unclear requirements, and suggest questions that might otherwise be overlooked.

  1. Accessible Development

Using hosted AI inference makes it possible to experiment with AI-powered applications without requiring a powerful local GPU or downloading large model files.

  1. Flexible AI Integration

The application can be adapted to different supported models and prompts as the project evolves, subject to provider availability and model licences.

  1. Learning Through Building

This project helped me explore how a web application, backend logic, an external AI service, and cloud deployment can work together to solve a practical problem.

Hosted AI inference requires an internet connection and may be subject to provider limits. Open-weight models, API access, and deployment infrastructure can also have different licensing and privacy requirements.

🌍 How It Supports the Side Hustle Theme

Freelancing can be a way to turn technical skills into a source of income. However, delivering good work is only one part of freelancing. Understanding client expectations is equally important.

ScopeSaathi AI is designed to support a simple workflow:

Enter or paste a client's project brief.

Analyze the stated requirements.

Review missing details and potential scope risks.

Generate follow-up questions.

Discuss unclear points with the client before starting work.

By helping freelancers prepare for these conversations, the project aims to reduce avoidable confusion and support more professional project planning.

ScopeSaathi AI does not guarantee freelance income or replace the freelancer's judgment. It is a tool to support better decisions.

🚧 Current Limitations and Next Steps

ScopeSaathi AI is an evolving project, and its results need to be tested against different types of real-world project briefs.

My next steps include:

Testing the analysis workflow with different freelance project categories.

Improving the accuracy and usefulness of missing-requirement detection.

Making AI-generated follow-up questions more specific to each project.

Improving error handling when the AI provider is unavailable.

Testing the deployed application across desktop and mobile browsers.

Improving the interface and project documentation.

Exploring additional ways to help freelancers prepare clearer project scopes.

πŸ“š What I Learned

Building ScopeSaathi AI gave me practical experience in connecting a web application to an AI service and deploying the application online.

It also helped me understand that useful AI applications need more than a model connection. Clear interfaces, reliable error handling, thoughtful prompts, privacy, and honest communication about limitations are all important.

Most importantly, I explored how AI can be applied to a practical problem faced by freelancers rather than being used only as a general-purpose chatbot.

🎯 Final Thought

Clear scope. Better conversations. Smarter freelancing.

I built ScopeSaathi AI to explore how AI can help freelancers understand client requirements and approach projects with greater clarity.

I welcome feedback, suggestions, and contributions from the open-source community!
