Biggest issue for me with directus is that it's database first. You have no models / code for your application. This means having multiple instances of your CMS (like a staging environment) is pretty annoying since you'll be migrating all the time.
I'd never heard of Payload until this article. Will definitely look into it further since I prefer MongoDB and the other two don't support it.
