SideHustle AI: Turn Product Ideas into Ready-to-Sell Listings with Open-Source AI

Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 2: Side Hustle Submission 💸

This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 2: Side Hustle

What I Built

I built SideHustle AI — Product Listing Studio, a simple AI-powered web application designed for small business owners, online sellers, and people starting their side hustles.

Creating attractive product listings can take a lot of time, especially for beginners. SideHustle AI helps users generate product descriptions, titles, tags, and social media captions by entering basic product details.

The goal is to make online selling easier, faster, and more accessible for people who want to start or grow a small business.

The project is built using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.

How I Built It

I built SideHustle AI using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript, with an open-weight language model integrated into the browser using Hugging Face Transformers.js.

The project uses Xenova/flan-t5-small for text generation. The model can generate product descriptions from the information provided by the user, while the application helps prepare other listing elements, such as titles, tags, and social media captions.

I chose browser-based inference to avoid requiring a paid AI API key or a custom backend server. The model and library need to be downloaded on the first run, so an internet connection is required initially. A template-based fallback is also included if model loading fails.

As a beginner in web development, building this project helped me learn how to connect an open-weight AI model with a practical web application.

Why Does Open Innovation Matter?

Open innovation makes AI more accessible to students, independent developers, and small businesses.

By using an open-weight model and an open-source JavaScript library, I could experiment with AI-powered content generation without depending on a paid, proprietary API.

This approach also makes the project easier to explore, modify, and improve. It demonstrates how open AI tools can help people build useful products with limited resources and turn their ideas into practical solutions.

My Agent Session

This project was developed with AI-assisted coding and learning. I do not have a DevRelay session link to share at the moment.
