In my opinion, there is no specific way you can understand them. You just have to practice them and try to understand what is happening at every step (mostly applies to loops). I recommend Mosh's python course on YouTube. It's his free version of his full python course but it covers more than just the basics. Here's a link to it. I hope you find this useful.
