BYD Da Tang EV Launches with Industry-First 950km Range and 9-Minute Flash Charging

Chinese EV giant BYD has launched its highly anticipated Da Tang EV, a full-size electric SUV that delivers up to 950 kilometers of range and a flash-charging system that takes the battery from 10% to 97% in just nine minutes. Priced from 239,900 yuan (~$35,500), the Da Tang redefines what is possible in the electric SUV segment.

Breaking the Range Ceiling

The 950-kilometer range (590 miles) makes the Da Tang the longest-range full-size SUV on the market today. BYD achieved this through its second-generation Blade Battery technology with a 1,000V high-voltage architecture, delivering higher energy density without compromising safety.

The lineup spans four variants from the entry RWD at 239,900 yuan (800 km range) to the top-tier AWD at 309,900 yuan with 585 kW (785 hp) output and 3.9-second 0-100 km/h acceleration.

9-Minute Charging Changes the Game

The flash-charging capability charges from 10% to 70% in just five minutes, and 10% to 97% in nine minutes — effectively eliminating the refueling advantage of petrol cars. BYD has built 6,682 flash-charging stations across 321 Chinese cities to support these speeds.

Technology and Design

The Da Tang seats seven in a 2+2+3 configuration with zero-gravity seats, features BYD's God's Eye 5.0 ADAS with roof-mounted LiDAR, DiSus-A air suspension, and rear-wheel steering with crab-walk mode. Over 150,000 pre-orders have been placed since April.
