A small team of 5-10 guys could fix Linux in 9-12 months. All you'd need is UI/software/hardware cross-compatibility. Just clone Explorer (and improve it), pre-package WINE and Unity VM so they are perfectly seamless, then maintain a compatibility list for the top 100 most-used applications. Then you've got all the benefits of Windows/MacOS, but with no bloatware, no background processes that you can't control, no built-in NSA backdoors (ha.. ha), no removal of useful features...
There's really no excuse, this should have already been done a long time ago. It's just that people would rather endlessly debate nonsense rather than do something actually useful.
