Switching to Linux: My Experience with Zorin OS, Docker, and Bash

Hey Dev.to community! For my very first post, I want to talk about something that has completely revitalized my daily workflow: my transition into the Linux ecosystem.

Recently, I made the decision to fully migrate my development environment to Zorin OS. I set it up on a Lenovo ThinkPad T14 Gen 3 and my PC, and paired with my dual-monitor setup—which I find absolutely indispensable for productivity—the experience has been phenomenal.

1. The Zorin OS Experience
If you want the raw power of Linux without sacrificing a polished, user-friendly interface, Zorin OS is incredible. It gave me a smooth transition, allowing me to customize my workspace exactly how I like it while keeping everything stable.

2. Embracing Bash and the Command Line
I have been diving deep into Bash. Instead of relying on GUIs for everything, I'm learning how to automate my daily tasks, manage files, and navigate my system entirely through the terminal. It is challenging at first, but the speed and control you gain are absolutely worth it.

3. Docker and Native Containerization
Since my stack involves Node.js, Python, databases like MySQL and MongoDB, and microservices, Docker is a massive part of my day. Running containers and managing images natively on Linux is a completely different game. The performance is better, the integration feels seamless, and spinning up complex environments takes seconds.

What's Next?

I am still exploring this massive ecosystem, but moving to Linux has already made me a more efficient and curious developer. It forces you to understand how your machine actually works under the hood.

Are there any other Zorin OS users out there? I would love to hear your favorite Bash tricks, Docker tips, or must-have tools for a Linux development environment. Let me know in the comments here, pls!
