Six years after the original, Apple finally refreshed the HomePod mini. The HomePod mini 2 costs $149 (that's $50 MORE than the 2020 original's $99), ships October 30, and brings an S10 chip, Wi-Fi 6E, a Sound Glow light show on top, and a headline trick: four-speaker surround sound when paired with the new Apple TV 4K.
The catch hiding in the announcement: Siri AI, the rebuilt conversational Siri this speaker was unveiled alongside, will NOT be switched on at launch. It arrives in a future software update, and Apple hasn't said when. So buyers are paying for hardware today and a promise for later.
