Part 1 — All the Feels. A lot of blog posts talk about strategies on how to find your first developer job, but rarely people talk about what it act...
For further actions, you may consider blocking this person and/or reporting abuse
Thanks for sharing a different perspective! I'm very fortunate to have had the opportunity to attend a great school and to live in a city that constatly ranks in the highest spot of tech jobs growth. My years of experence as a designer had a great impact on me getting a job straigh out of bootcamp. I talk briefly about how you should highlight non related job experiences in the second part.
Unfortunately that's not the reality for everyone. One of the best aspects of online dev communities like dev.to is that it connects people from all over the world, and all walks of life. I'm sorry if this blog post was not helpful to you, but if it can help only one of those people that don't have the same opportunities as we do, then it'll fulfill its goal.
Thanks for sharing this Tuni! The tech interview process is terrible in so many ways. In many non-tech industries, I think the culture fit thing is a lot more clear and obvious (and still humbling).
But in software we’ve got this weird technical aspect to it, which isn’t necessarily so much grounded in tech but in whether your approach to the tech aligns with theirs. Oh and “culture” too.
And often it’s not clear at all whether it was the tech, your approach to the tech, or “culture” that excluded you. So your own worst self doubts will surface, when it could have been something a lot more to do with the company than with you.
It’s hard for everyone, not just newbies.
Glad you shared this. I think it will help many!! Your inspiring words are spot on.
This is a great article, thank you for writing this down, I'm sure it will help a lot of people. I'm thinking about sending my application to a few small local companies I'd like to work for and I was stuck in that "I'll apply when I'm 100% ready" mindset for months. This article sums up all the things that go through your mind when you're on a job hunt perfectly.
Where I live, this is very much not the case. I graduated with a B.S. in software engineering and perhaps only 3 people I know (out of about 60) were able to land jobs as developers.
Failing forward! I love it! Welcome to the community, Tuni!
Thank you so much!
Thanks for this article. I'm in month #4 of the job hunt. It's frustrating most days but you just need one person to say yes 😊
Uplifting. Thank you for the great post.
Beautifully written, I'm going through the similar phase. And I tell myself these when things don't go right. And yes an affirmation definitely adds more confidence 😊
That really depends on where you live.
Love this! Thanks for sharing your experience! I'm definitely in that struggle to apply because I don't feel ready.
