Process Designer (Hybrid/Remote)

VAA is expanding its footprint and seeking a sharp-minded Process Designer who thrives where ingenuity collides with practicality. This is not merely another drafting seat behind a monitor. It is an opportunity to architect operational ecosystems that invigorate commerce, amplify environmental stewardship, strengthen municipal functionality, and shape dynamic public environments that people genuinely remember.

Within VAA’s Process division, the work extends far beyond ordinary schematics. The team orchestrates intricate Piping and Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), process flow diagrams, equipment positioning strategies, instrumentation specifications, and conveying-system frameworks handling dry materials, liquids, and gaseous commodities alike. Every project carries tangible consequence — the sort of engineering influence that quietly powers industries from behind the curtain.

What You’ll Be Entrusted With
The Process Designer collaborates intimately with Engineers and Project Managers to assemble polished construction documentation while remaining actively engaged throughout construction support activities.

Daily responsibilities weave together technical precision and collaborative foresight, including:

Producing layout plans, sectional drawings, and construction details aligned with established CAD protocols while working alongside engineering leadership.
Delegating assignments and providing technical direction to Technicians.
Conducting meticulous back-check reviews to ensure drafting integrity and consistency.
Synchronizing design intent with internal contributors as well as external product suppliers.
Addressing RFIs and responding to contractor or client field inquiries with clarity and technical confidence.
Evaluating shop drawings to confirm alignment with project specifications.
Refining design acumen continuously to deepen technical specialization.
Participating in internal coordination discussions and client-facing project meetings.
Traveling periodically for site observations, dimensional verification, and field assessments when project demands arise.
Qualifications That Will Set You Apart
Candidates should possess one of the following:

A certificate in construction-related drafting or design, paired with a minimum of three years of directly applicable experience.
OR

Four or more years of hands-on, directly related industry experience in lieu of formal certification.
VAA values capability as much as credentials. Practical intelligence, composure under pressure, and an appetite for collaborative problem-solving carry substantial weight here.

Compensation & Rewards
The anticipated starting hourly compensation ranges between $28.50 and $33.50, with final offers shaped by several variables including geographic region, market benchmarks, technical specialization, and professional tenure.

The benefits package is equally substantial, featuring:

Medical, dental, and vision coverage
Life insurance
Profit-sharing opportunities
401(k) participation
Paid leave programs
Additional employee-centered perks
