Judging by the difficulty of exercises in the examples, app's target audience may not be able to read/write just yet.
For example: "What comes right after 8?". Preschoolers will know the answer, but won't be able to understand the question, and it'd be absolutely below the level of a kid that can read sentences, making it quite boring for them.
It's much harder to keep kid in the flow in comparison to an adult. I do like colours and illustrations I don't think UX is quite there yet.
