When ChatGPT becomes slow to load or difficult to open in Google Chrome, the issue may be caused by a stuck network-related process. In many cases, it is sufficient to end only the “Utility: Network Service” task in Chrome’s built-in Task Manager.
This restarts Chrome’s network service without closing the entire browser.
Restart Only the Network Service in Chrome
1) Open Google Chrome’s Task Manager
In Chrome, open the Task Manager from the menu:
- Menu (⋮) → More tools → Task Manager
2) Locate “Utility: Network Service”
In the Task Manager window:
- Look for the task named Utility: Network Service
You do not need to switch to “All tasks” or select everything.
3) End Only “Utility: Network Service”
- Select Utility: Network Service
- Click End process
Chrome will automatically restart the network service in the background.
Notes
- This action does not close your entire browser.
- Open tabs usually remain open.
- If ChatGPT was stuck due to a networking issue, it should now load normally after refreshing the page.
