I found 9 security holes in my AI-built app. Here's the exact fix for each.

I built a small app the way everyone builds now: prompt, generate, ship. It "worked." Then I ran a scanner over it and it came back with 9 findings, 3 of them critical — the kind that turn into a breach, a chargeback, or a very bad Friday.

This is the before/after, with the actual fix for each one. If you vibe-coded anything, you have some of these.

The fixes

1. An API route with no auth and a SQL injection

2. A secret shipped to the browser

NEXT_PUBLIC_STRIPE_SECRET_KEY — the "public" prefix puts it in the client bundle where anyone can read it. The fix is not to hide it better; it's to move the call server-side behind an API route and keep the key on the server.

3. Keys and credentials in source, TLS off, eval

  • The API key now comes from process.env, never a string literal.
  • TLS verification stays at its secure default (you pin a CA if you must — you never disable verification).
  • eval is gone.
  • Secrets are no longer console.loged.

4. .env hygiene

Add .env to .gitignore, and stop embedding user:password inside one connection string — use separate runtime variables so a leak of one file doesn't leak everything.
