AI coding tools get an app 70–80% done, fast. Then it falls over in production — not on the feature you were excited about, but on the boring 20% nobody prompts for: an API route with no auth, an API key shipped in the browser bundle, a query built by string concatenation.
I built a free, zero-dependency scanner that reports exactly those defects, and I ran it against a throwaway "vibe-coded" app I wrote on purpose. It found 9 real issues. Here are the 10 that matter most, and how each one bites.
1. Secrets shipped to the browser
NEXT_PUBLIC_STRIPE_SECRET_KEY, VITE_API_TOKEN, REACT_APP_DB_PASSWORD — any secret with a public prefix lands in the client bundle, readable by anyone who opens devtools. The fix is not "hide it better"; it's to remove the prefix and proxy the call server-side.
2. Route handlers with no auth guard
Next.js/Express route files that fetch or mutate data with no session check. This is the single most common hole: the app "works," so nobody notices that GET /api/users is public. Every mutating route needs an auth check at the top, not somewhere downstream.
3. SQL built by string concatenation

Looks fine in a demo. It's an injection. Use parameterized queries — bound placeholders, never interpolation.
4. TLS verification switched off
verify=False, rejectUnauthorized: false, NODE_TLS_REJECT_UNAUTHORIZED=0. Someone hit a cert error, turned it off "to get it working," and it never came back. Re-enable it; pin the CA if you must.
5. A committed .env that isn't in .gitignore
The secrets file exists, the repo tracks it, and .gitignore doesn't list it. Rotate everything in it and add .env to .gitignore — and assume it's already public.
6. Wildcard CORS
Access-Control-Allow-Origin: * combined with credentialed requests is a data-exfil hole. Restrict to an explicit allowlist.
7. eval / exec creeping in from quick fixes
Usually added to "dynamically" handle something mid-build. It's a remote-code-execution vector. Replace it with a parser.
8. Secret values written to logs
console.log("token", token) ships to your log aggregator, your terminal, and any error tracker. Redact it.
9. Insecure auth cookie flags
Missing HttpOnly, missing Secure, or SameSite=None. Set all three correctly, or your session token is reachable from JavaScript.
10. TODOs left on auth and payment paths
