Feed posts want 1:1. A hard crop on a wide shot often clips a shoulder or forehead. Pad instead: keep the whole photo centered and fill the empty bands.
1. Drop the photo in the browser
Open squareimage.dev. Add JPEG, PNG, WebP, GIF, or BMP. Encoding stays in the tab — no account, no upload.
2. Pad first, crop only if you mean it
- Blur background — subject stays intact; empty sides are a blurred copy. Adjust scale/blur in the blurred frame editor.
- Solid color — same padding with a flat fill; good for products and logos.
- Resize — stretches to square; use only when distortion is fine.
- Crop 1:1 — when you want to cut edges. Also at square crop.
People and landscapes: start with blur. Clean studio backgrounds: solid color usually looks cleaner.
3. Export at Instagram’s square size
Default is 1200×1200. For the feed, 1080×1080 is the usual Instagram square. JPEG for photos, PNG if you need transparency, WebP for a smaller file.
Close the tab and the file is gone from the session. More on sizes: 1:1 size guide. Profile-style full frames: full DP.
