Software Testing and its importance

Software Testing

It is the process of evaluating and verifying whether a software product or an application is performing as it is expected to perform. Software testing is very important to ensure that the product or application is doing what it is supposed to do.
In software testing, we check for errors or bugs or any defects and gaps in the outcome of the application in order to meet the desired expectations before the software goes live.

Software Testing Life Cycle is a process that follows certain steps where in each step has certain objectives. The steps or stages include:
Requirement Analysis: Reviewing the software requirements document and any other related documents to ensure there are no ambiguities or incomplete documents. At the end of this stage the testing team will have a clear understanding of the software requirements.
Test Planning : In this phase, all the test plans are defined. The estimated effort, cost and time needed for testing are calculated. This stage includes developing a test strategy, identifying the testing environment and resources needed, assigning the roles and responsibilities and approving the test plan.
Test case development : The testing team starts writing the test cases that are clear to understand , creating test scenarios that will be used in test cases ,reviewing and validating the test cases. This stage helps to know if any potential issues are expected before the software is released.
Test Environment Setup: This setup is an independent activity which can be started along with test case development itself. Either the developer or customer creates the test environment .
Test Execution: Once the test environment is created, it is time for tester to run and execute the test cases and check if the application is defect free without any bugs.

Software testing Relevance:

Some of the important reasons why software testing is really important and significant:
1)Quality product: The product should serve the user in a way that it brings the value as promised. It should function as per the needs to ensure customer satisfaction. To achieve this, software/product testing before reaching the customer or end user plays a vital role to keep up the standard of the product as expected by the user.
2)Development process enhancement: Software testers should be working in parallel with the developers to accelerate the development process. It will be simple for developers to fix the bugs and errors in no time with the help of testers
3)Security: There are many situations where the information and details of the user are stolen and are used for other benefits. So, it is one of the reason why users look for well tested and reliable products or applications. Users can receive products that are free from vulnerability with the help of software testing.
4)Early defect detection: Quality Assurance team works parallel from the beginning of the software development then it is easy for early defect detection and also helps the development team to fix them. If testing starts after the complete development of the software then the developer needs to redesign all interrelated modules to fix the defect of a particular module
5)Easy to add new features: As a developer, changing older parts of your codebase can be challenging, but with testing, you’ll at least know if you’ve broken anything important. This helps in making your software stand ahead in the market.
So, Software testing plays an important role in delivering a quality product to the end user without any defects.
