AI-powered product description

Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 2: Side Hustle Submission 💸

This is a submission for the Hacktoberfest Open-Source AI Challenge Week 2: Side Hustle

What I Built

I built a simple AI-powered product description generator concept for small online sellers.

Many small sellers spend time writing product descriptions for their online stores. My goal is to make this process easier by helping them turn basic product details into clear, attractive descriptions.

The idea is to build an affordable tool for small businesses, freelancers, and individual sellers who cannot afford expensive AI subscriptions.

The project currently includes a simple static webpage with an interactive sample demo. Integrating a real open-weight AI model is the next step.

Example deployment options:

GitHub Pages: https://pages.github.com/

The current demo is a frontend simulation and does not yet generate descriptions using a real AI model.

Code

The project uses HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to provide a simple, responsive interface.

How I Built It

I started with a simple static webpage using HTML, CSS, and vanilla JavaScript.

The page includes:

A landing page explaining the problem and solution.

Feature cards and a simple product preview.

An interactive sample demo.

A proposed business model for small sellers.

An explanation of how open-source AI could power the product.

For the next stage, I plan to integrate a small open-weight language model through Ollama so product descriptions can be generated locally.

The goal is to keep the project beginner-friendly and avoid paid API dependencies.

Why Does Open Innovation Matter?

Open innovation can make this project more affordable and flexible.

Using a suitable open-weight model locally could help small sellers generate product descriptions without paying for every API request. Local inference could also keep product information on the user's computer instead of sending it to an external AI service.

Open models also give developers more freedom to experiment with different models and customize the application for specific users.

For this project, the aim is to build a useful tool that stays affordable for people running small businesses.

These benefits are goals for the planned AI integration; the current static demo does not yet provide local AI inference.
