Funding Insights: ORiS and deltaVision Propel European Space Startups

Overview of Recent Funding Successes

The European space startup landscape is undergoing a significant transformation, driven by increased funding activity. Notably, ORiS and deltaVision are at the forefront of this trend, securing substantial investments that not only validate their innovative technologies but also attract investor interest in the sector.

ORiS Secures €5 Million

Turin-based ORiS has successfully closed a €4.5 million pre-Seed funding round, complemented by a €500,000 grant aimed at developing advanced wireless power transmission systems for space applications. Earlybird led this funding round, reflecting a strong investor appetite for cutting-edge space technology. ORiS plans to utilize this funding to further its development of laser-powered energy infrastructure for space applications.

deltaVision Raises €10.2 Million

Similarly, deltaVision, based in Munich, has raised €10.2 million in its inaugural funding round. This capital is intended for scaling production of spacecraft propulsion components, with an ambitious target of reaching 5,000 units annually. The funding was sourced from private industrial family offices and venture capital, with KT Ventures and Valemount Capital leading the investment. The influx of capital will enable deltaVision to accelerate its development of orbital refueling technology, a critical component for future spacecraft operations.

New Support Initiatives for Space Startups

In tandem with these funding successes, the European Space Agency (ESA) has announced the launch of two new Business Incubation Centres in Portugal, aimed at bolstering space entrepreneurship within the region. This initiative will provide valuable support and funding opportunities for emerging startups in the space sector.

Poland's Investment in EU's IRIS² Project

Additionally, Poland's commitment of approximately $745 million to the EU's IRIS² satellite internet constellation project signifies another major funding avenue for space startups. This investment enhances Poland's role in Europe's space initiatives while creating collaboration opportunities for startups focused on satellite and connectivity technologies.

Emerging Funding Opportunities

Founders in the space sector should also consider the current funding calls available. The EU has announced a €20 million budget for proposals focusing on high-performance energy systems, with a submission deadline of 29 September 2026. Such initiatives represent valuable opportunities for startups aiming to secure funding for innovative projects.

What this means for founders

The recent successes of ORiS and deltaVision illustrate the growing investment interest in the European space sector. Founders are encouraged to explore similar EU funding opportunities, including ESA's Business Incubation Centres and various funding calls, to enhance their chances of securing capital to scale their innovations. Engaging with initiatives like the IRIS² project can also lead to collaborative opportunities that may provide additional funding avenues.
