How to Sync/Adjust/Delay Video Subtitles in VLC Player?

VLC is the most popular, free , open-source , and cross-platform media player around the world. It can play any audio and video format. While watching films or movies, you can also get subtitles for it. In some cases, the downloaded subtitle may not sync with your video. Sync Subtitle to the Video in VLC

  • Launch the VLC Media Player program on your PC.
  • You need to play the film or video with the subtitle.
  • Go to the Media tab , and select ** the **Open File option from the menu.

  • In File Explorer, you have to select the video file and *hit * the *Open * button.

  • Under the Tools tab , you need to select the Effects and Filters option from the menu.

  • Go to the Synchronization tab.
  • In the Subtitle track synchronization section, you have to enter the positive or negative value.

**Info:** Usually, the positive value (10.000) will delay the subtitle. The negative value (-5.000) will speed up the subtitle.

  • You have to enter the value according to adjust your subtitle in VLC.
  • After that, you need to click the Close button.

Use Keyboard Shortcuts

You can also use the keyboard shortcuts to adjust the subtitle delay or speed in the VLC media player.

  • Press the H button on the keyboard for a negative delay to the audio or subtitle of – 50ms.
  • If you want to add another -50ms delay , you need to press the H button again.
  • You can confirm it by seeing the message “ Subtitle Delay 50 ms ” shown in the top right corner of the screen.

  • Press the G button to speed up the appearance of your subtitle.
  • You will see a message displayed on the top right screen as “ Subtitle delay -50 ms “.

  • Every time you press these buttons, a 50ms delay is added , either positively or negatively.

Advance synchronization functionality of VLC

If the subtitles are delayed when compared to the audio, follow the steps.

  • Click the SHIFT + H keys on your keyboard when you listen to a sentence that you will be able to recognize easily.
  • Press the SHIFT + J shortcut if when you read the same sentence in the subtitle.
  • Just click the SHIFT + K keys to correct the sync.
