Security Tip: Malware Injection — Spotting the Warning Signs on Your Website

Malware injection is one of the most common ways attackers take control of a website. Instead of breaking in through the front door, hackers slip malicious code into your site's files, database, or plugins — often without you noticing for weeks. The damage can range from stolen visitor data to your domain being blacklisted by Google.

Here are warning signs every website owner should know:

1. Your site suddenly redirects to strange pages. If visitors report being sent to spam sites, gambling pages, or fake download portals, that's a classic injection symptom — malicious redirects hidden in your theme or header files.

2. Search results show odd text under your domain. Hackers inject SEO spam (pharmaceutical or casino keywords) that only shows up in search engines. Search "site:yourdomain.com" in Google and look for pages you never created.

3. Unexpected admin accounts or file changes. Check your user list for accounts you didn't create, and scan recently modified files for obfuscated PHP or JavaScript you can't explain.

4. Security warnings from browsers. A "Deceptive site ahead" warning from Chrome means Google has already flagged your site — act fast.

5. Sudden performance drops. Malware often phones home to attacker servers, slowing your site dramatically.

The first step is always detection. Run a free vulnerability scan regularly — catching the infection early is what separates a quick cleanup from a full disaster. Scan your site today with Vulnerability Tools and make sure nothing malicious is hiding in your code.

A site that looks fine to you can look very different to an attacker. Check it before they do.
