Isn't the API Economy just a natural result of the more general trend (and necessity) towards higher specialisation? It is simply not possible anymore or extremely hard to build a competitive product without building it ontop of proven, highly specialiced and optimized APIs. Totally agree with the importance of funding open source btw.
Yea, meaning that it is/was inevitable. Like the industrial revolution, where you could boost productivity in your factory by introducing e.g. steam machines, which you of course couldn't develope on your own.
