Are Estimates a Myth?

"Estimates" in software development, can we get this right? What's the closest you ever been?

Estimates are quite often fairly accurate. It's simply that they're based on requirements which are anything but accurate.

I agree the estimates are directly proportional to the accuracy of the requirements. What factors would we need to document to get higher accuracy.

No, they do happen...

I heard all estimates in waterfall model are accurate - or at least must be acurate if you ask management side.

Oh yes when it comes to management it has to be accurate so that the commitments done to the leaders are met and the future plans made are materialized.
