SEO: How to Use Looker Studio for SEO Reporting 2026

Looker Studio (formerly Google Data Studio) replaces manual CSV exports and
spreadsheet reporting with live, shareable SEO dashboards. It connects directly to
Search Console, GA4, and third-party SEO tools.

Essential Data Source Connections

Google Search Console connector (native, free):
Pulls: clicks, impressions, CTR, average position — by page, by query, by date.

Google Analytics 4 connector (native, free):
Pulls: organic sessions, goal completions, user behavior, landing page data.

Google Sheets connector (native, free):
Use for: Competitor position tracking, manual keyword lists, client notes.

Third-party connectors (Supermetrics, Porter Metrics):
Ahrefs, SEMrush, Moz data if you need backlink metrics in the dashboard.

Core Report Sections to Build

Traffic overview (time series chart):
Organic clicks + impressions with period comparison.
Annotation layer: Mark core updates, major content changes, new pages launched.

Top pages (sortable table):
Columns: Page URL, clicks, impressions, CTR, avg position.
Insight: High impressions + low CTR = title tag problem.

Keyword opportunities (filtered table):
Filter: Position > 7 AND position < 21 AND impressions > 200.
These are near-page-1 queries worth a focused content update.

Coverage health (scorecard):
Indexed pages (from GSC) vs. pages submitted in sitemap.
Large gap: Crawl or indexing problem needs investigation.

Sharing With Clients

Sharing: View-only link. No GSC or GA4 access required on the client side.
Add: Date range control — clients can adjust the view without contacting you.
Add: Simple text commentary explaining the most important trends each month.
