On-chain Shopping: Bridging Generative AI and XRPL for a Frictionless Retail Future

This is a submission for the DEV's Worldwide Show and Tell Challenge Presented by Mux

What I Built

On-chain Shopping is an intelligent retail ecosystem that seamlessly converges Generative AI with the XRP Ledger (XRPL). It features a "Virtual Barista" that allows users to place orders using natural language via text or voice. The system automates the entire process from AI-driven intent recognition to on-chain payment settlement and NFT reward distribution.

The Story Behind It

Developed at National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology (NKUST) and supported by the Ripple Impact Fund, this project was born from a simple question: _How can we make Web3 invisible? _

Traditional crypto interactions are often clunky and intimidating for average consumers. We built On-chain Shopping to prove that by using Generative AI as the interface, we can provide a frictionless experience where the blockchain handles the trust and transparency in the background. It's not just a retail app; it's a blueprint for a closed-loop economy that spans from individual consumers to B2B supply chain settlements.

Technical Highlights

Our project stands out due to its multi-layered integration of AI and Blockchain:

  • Generative AI Interface: We implemented a Virtual Barista capable of context-aware ordering (e.g., "One more Latte") and multi-modal input (Text/Voice).
  • XRPL Payment Gateway: Utilizing the XRP Ledger for instant, low-cost transactions with hybrid support for both credit cards and Web3 KFD payments.
  • Secure Authentication: Integration with Xaman Wallet API for secure, QR-code-based logins and on-chain transaction signing.
  • Consumption as Minting: A unique NFT utility model where every successful purchase triggers an on-chain digital asset claim for the user.
  • B2B Ecosystem: An architecture designed for Phase 2 expansion, enabling automated real-time settlement between coffee shops and raw material suppliers.

Use of Mux (Additional Prize Category Participants Only)

We utilized Mux to host and stream our project's demonstration video. Mux provided a high-quality, reliable video experience that allowed us to showcase the fluid interaction between our AI Barista and the real-time payment confirmations on the XRPL. The integration process was straightforward, allowing us to focus on our core development while ensuring our "Show and Tell" was accessible to developers worldwide.
