Every SaaS comparison site claims to be unbiased. Most aren't, because the business model runs on affiliate placement, not accuracy. Here's the process we actually use on StakDock.
First, we separate marketing claims from verifiable facts. A pricing page saying unlimited gets checked against the actual terms of service, rate limits and fair use clauses hide real limits more often than not.
Second, we weight real usage signals over star ratings. A tool with 200 detailed reviews mentioning the same specific complaint (slow support, confusing onboarding, missing integrations) tells you more than a 4.8 average built on 12 reviews.
Third, we test category fit, not just feature lists. Two project management tools can have nearly identical feature checklists and be completely wrong for different teams, one built for solo freelancers, one for 50-person agencies. A comparison that ignores this just produces noise.
Fourth, we flag when free alternative isn't actually free once you need the features you came for. A lot of free CRM alternatives lists conveniently leave out the seat limits.
