AI Funding and IPO Frenzy: DeepSeek's $14B Round, Anthropic's $2T IPO

The AI capital markets roared in October 2026, underscoring both the sector's soaring valuations and the intensifying concentration of capital. According to multiple trackers including aitop.news and analyst roundups, DeepSeek reportedly closed its first external financing round at roughly 100 billion yuan (about $14 billion) with participation from CATL and Tencent, earmarked for AI data centers and open-source model development ahead of a potential IPO. The round values the Chinese lab at more than $50 billion and signals strong domestic confidence in sovereign AI infrastructure.

Across the Pacific, Anthropic advanced toward an initial public offering that markets expect could reach a valuation of up to $2 trillion, with a draft S-1 reportedly showing H1 2026 revenue of about $16.3 billion. OpenAI, meanwhile, was said to be seeking as much as $30 billion in new funding at a valuation between $1.25 trillion and $1.4 trillion, with investors including Coatue, BlackRock, and sovereign funds, and Nvidia committing $30B plus guarantees for its Ohio data center. These mega-rounds reflect a structural shift: capital is consolidating around a handful of frontier labs and the compute infrastructure that powers them.

The merger-and-acquisition landscape was equally active. Salesforce agreed to acquire AI marketing platform Braze for about $5.66 billion in cash; Meta acquired AI data-analytics startup Sundial; and OpenAI acquired Orchestra Bio, whose agents coordinate drug-development workflows. Legal-AI leader Legora raised $550 million at an $8.8B valuation, while Arena, the AI benchmarking platform, nearly doubled its valuation to $3.1 billion in just ten months on the back of $200 million in Series B funding. Analysts caution that roughly a third of quarterly capital flowed to only 27 companies, making concentration the principal portfolio risk and suggesting that the success or failure of the Anthropic IPO will set the tone for late-stage AI exits.
