China’s Daily AI Token Consumption Tops 140 Trillion; “Token Going Global” Becomes Core Industrial Theme
Academician Zheng Weimin of the Chinese Academy of Engineering pointed out in an exclusive interview that the AI industry is shifting from model training factories to AI token production factories. Official data shows China’s average daily token calls exceeded 140 trillion in March 2026, surging over 1,000 times within two years.
The explosive growth is driven by large-scale deployment of AI Agents. Complex automated workflows consume dozens to thousands of times more tokens than simple Q&A tasks. Industry insiders believe cost-competitive domestic large models are building clear overseas export channels for AI token services.
