Hey dev.to community!
I'm an undergraduate student and solo developer from Japan. I wanted to share a project I've been working on and get some feedback from fellow builders.
Right now, I feel like many existing directories mostly end up showcasing products to other developers rather than reaching the actual customers founders want to target. On top of that, you often have to wait months in line, pay to skip the queue, or even provide a mandatory backlink.
I believe users who are actively searching to solve a specific problem carry the highest potential value as customers. That is why I'm building Day One Dev ( dayone-dev.com ), a free directory designed to capture organic search traffic.
The system automatically generates a page for your product, categorizes similar tools, and creates comparison pages to make it easier to draw traffic from search engines.
Since this is a brand-new project with a weak domain, traffic will be low at the start. But if you have experience listing products on various directories, I would really appreciate your thoughts:
- Would you be willing to list your product if it's completely free, requires no backlink, and only takes entering a URL?
- Or would you still hesitate to submit it until the domain gains more traction?
Sorry if this feels a bit like self-promotion, but I genuinely want to hear your feedback.
Looking forward to connecting with everyone on dev.to!
