Creating an IBM Cloud API Key for watsonx.ai

Introduction

When you work in watsonx.ai environment on IBM Cloud, one day or another the question of having your API Key comes up.

The following steps describe how create an API Key (for watsonx.ai or other usage generally speaking).

Steps to create the API Key

• Access your IBM watsonx instance in SaaS mode (IBM Cloud).

• On the top left corner of the screen click on the burger menu (when you hover, you’ll see the ‘Navigation Menu’ label).

• Expand the menu and select IAM.

• You’ll have access to the API Keys list and creation page. Hit the blue “Create” button.

• Give a name and description to the API Key and hit “Create” again.

• Once your API key is created, you can either copy/paste it to a secure note or download it as a JSON file.

Note: once an API Key is created, you cannot access the copy/paste or download functionalities again! If you didn’t do it in the previous step and if you’ve lost your API Key you’ll need to create a new one again.
