An agent demo shows an answer. An architecture review must explain why the agent could retrieve a source, invoke a connector and change a record—and whose authority each step used.
USER EXPERIENCE ≠ SYSTEM BOUNDARY.
Microsoft’s agent architecture guidance describes interfaces, orchestrators, models and tool calling as interconnected components.
Chat may be the right abstraction for a user; it is not a map of the execution path.
For a consequential action, four domains deserve scrutiny:
Authority
- Which human, agent or workload identity acts?
- Is authority delegated or autonomous?
- Does permission cover this operation in this channel?
Knowledge
- Which source or index entered context, with what provenance?
- Could untrusted content be mistaken for an instruction?
Execution
- Which orchestrator, tool, API or connector turns a choice into a transaction?
- What can it change downstream?
Evidence
- Can traces, tool activity and policy decisions reconstruct the action—not just preserve its final answer?
Microsoft documents relevant governance primitives across Entra Agent ID, Agent 365 and Copilot Studio.
Power Platform environments can establish data and lifecycle boundaries; Copilot Studio data policies can govern sources, actions and connectors.
An architecture review still has to verify which controls apply to the actual path.
That qualification matters.
Microsoft states that end-to-end authentication using an Entra Agent ID token, including runtime scope enforcement, currently applies only when a Copilot Studio agent runs in Teams.
A control documented for one channel should not be assumed to cover another.
R.A.H.S.I. Interpretation
My R.A.H.S.I. interpretation is to examine the consequence-bearing action backward:
- who authorized it,
- where policy could constrain it,
- when a person retained meaningful approval authority,
- and what evidence would survive a change to the model, instruction, source or tool.
