Source Authority | Separating Enterprise Truth from Decision Mandate | R.A.H.S.I. Framework™
An employee master may be the source of truth for an employment record. If enterprise AI uses that record to recommend a benefit, the record still cannot establish which contract applies or which policy governs the recommendation.
DATA TRUTH ≠ DECISION MANDATE.
Source-of-truth architecture identifies where to trust a fact.
Source Authority, in R.A.H.S.I., defines the bounded organizational mandate a source carries when AI uses it to support a business decision.
A decision may require several legitimate sources with different mandates.
Five questions make the boundary inspectable:
- What facts or requirements does the source establish?
- Who grants its mandate: an accountable owner, contracting party or external authority?
- Where does that mandate apply: which entity, population, contract, jurisdiction or effective period?
- Is its authority factual, policy, contractual, regulatory or procedural?
- Which decision may rely on it, and what other sources must also be considered?
Governance domains set boundaries for ownership and discovery; data products group assets by use case and identify owners.
Glossary terms supply business vocabulary and can carry governance policies.
Unified Catalog supports access policies on business concepts.
Data Map and Unified Catalog roles do not themselves grant access to underlying data.
Source Authority
Source Authority is a R.A.H.S.I. cross-layer architectural concept, not a native Microsoft classification.
