Hey dev.to community, students, aspiring leaders, and cloud enthusiasts!
If you're a student passionate about cloud computing, excited by leadership, and ready to build a vibrant technical community on your campus—this is your chance to shine. AWS Cloud Club Captain applications are open now—don't wait to make an impact!
As the AWS Cloud Club Captain in Pokhara, Nepal, I have seen firsthand how powerful this role can be. I started just like many of you: curious about AWS, tinkering with free resources, and wondering how to turn that into real skills and connections. Becoming a Captain changed everything. I have led hands-on workshops at local campuses—covering EC2 launches, serverless apps with Lambda, intro AI/ML projects, and more. We have gathered students by Fewa Lake for meetups, powered through Nepal's occasional power glitches during debugging sessions 😄, celebrated first successful deployments, and helped members earn certifications, land internships, and build confidence.
The best part? It's not just tech—it's empowerment:
- Organize events that spark excitement and hands-on learning for your peers.
- Grow your leadership skills: event planning, public speaking, mentorshipthings that stand out on any resume.
- Get amazing support from AWS: credits, certification vouchers, swag, training, and guidance from incredible mentors like Lisa Bagley, CPACC (Global Lead for AWS Cloud Clubs), Nayoung Miller Won, Tracy Wang, and Arkodyuti Saha—they're truly supportive and inspiring!
AWS Cloud Clubs are student-led (18+ learners) spaces where peers teach peers, build real projects, and prepare for cloud careers. In growing tech hubs like Nepal, these clubs create opportunities, bridge gaps, and inspire the next wave of developers—especially women in tech and underrepresented builders
I have created a short video explaining exactly what AWS Cloud Clubs are, what Captains do day-to-day, and why every tech-driven campus should have one. Watch it here:https://lnkd.in/gEE99Jk9
(it's quick, real, and from the heart!)
