A series is the only place where one credit buys a month of listening. Space opera writes long on purpose, and the extra hours are world-building rather than padding, so runtime is a feature and not a warning sign.
What actually works, in order: Buy the first book before the rest, prefer omnibus editions once a set passes fifty hours, check that the narrator stays the same across volumes, and keep one standalone in reserve for the week the saga starts to feel like homework.
The numbers worth knowing: Pandora's Star runs 38 hours and Judas Unchained runs 41, both read by John Lee. A ten-book box set clears 69 hours on a single credit.
Where people go wrong: Buying a trilogy up front because the reviews are good. If the universe does not click, three credits are gone before you know it.
