MetaTrader has two passwords: the master password trades, while the investor password is read-only.
Short answer: for your money, mostly yes. An investor password cannot open, close or modify trades, and withdrawals need your broker portal login. The risks lie elsewhere.
The real risks
- Privacy: whoever has it sees your full account and trade history at any time.
- Distribution: you cannot control who else gets it until you change it.
- Copying without you knowing: people can copy your trades from the read-only view.
- Human error: accidentally sending the master password is the main hazard.
Change your investor password from time to time, and every time you stop sharing it.
A way without any password: an EA can run in your own terminal and publish your trades and balance to a public page, so nobody needs a login. Our free AlgoTrade Connect does this for MT4 and MT5; you decide what is published and can stop at any time.
