A local model can explain the information you give it. To read information from another service or act through that service's tools, it needs a connection.

OGAM (Off Grid AI Mobile) Pro supports MCP servers on Android and iPhone. Add a server, connect it, enable the tools you need, and let a compatible local model use them in chat. The model can remain on your phone while the tool request goes to the connected service.

MCP means Model Context Protocol. It gives the app a common way to discover a server's tools and call them. It does not make a remote service offline or give the model access to every app installed on your phone.

Start with a useful task that needs no account setup

One quick-setup option in OGAM is DeepWiki. Its remote server provides tools for reading documentation about public GitHub repositories. The provider documents a no-authentication connection and the read_wiki_structure and read_wiki_contents tools. DeepWiki MCP documentation

That makes a small documentation lookup a useful first task. You can check whether the server connects and whether the model uses a returned result before adding an account with editing permissions.

For example, choose a public repository available in DeepWiki and ask:

Use the connected DeepWiki tool to list the documentation topics for [owner/repository]. Tell me what the tool returned, without guessing missing topics.

The lookup requires internet because DeepWiki is a hosted service. Its tool receives the request. Keep private code and credentials out of this public-repository example.

Connect the server in OGAM

  1. Activate Pro and select a downloaded local model that supports tool calls.
  2. Open Settings → Pro tools.
  3. Use the add-server action, then choose DeepWiki from Quick setup.
  4. Wait for its server card to show Active.
  5. Open Edit Tools and enable the documentation-reading tool needed for your first request.
  6. Return to chat and ask the specific repository question.

The app's MCP connection and tool-selection controls are included in OGAM 0.0.111.

Look for a real tool result before trusting the answer as a repository lookup. A model can answer from general knowledge without calling the connected tool. The local model's tool-calling ability matters: some small models call tools unreliably or not at all.

If no call happens, confirm that the server is Active and the required tool is enabled. Then make the task narrower and explicitly name the connected service. If the model still cannot use it, try another local model with better tool support.

Add your own server when you have a specific job

The manual Add MCP server from URL form accepts a name, endpoint, and authentication choice. Use the MCP endpoint supplied by the service, not its ordinary home page.

For the example above, the provider's documented endpoint is https://mcp.deepwiki.com/mcp. For another service, use that provider's current setup instructions. Some servers use browser sign-in, while others require a request header. Enter those values in the connection form rather than in a chat prompt.

After the server connects, inspect its tools with Edit Tools. Enable the capabilities that match the job you want to do. A server offering search and editing does not mean every request needs both.

For a private service on your own network, the phone needs a reachable server address. localhost on the phone refers to the phone itself, not your computer. A local network route can avoid the public internet for that connection only if the server and its task also work locally.

Know where the work happens

With a local chat model selected, the model runs on your phone. The MCP tool runs through the connected server. Tool arguments and results cross that connection.

A server may in turn use other online services or hosted AI. Selecting a local model in OGAM does not change how the server performs its work. The DeepWiki example is therefore a connected workflow, not an offline repository assistant.

Disconnecting a server prevents normal use of that connection. Removing it disables its tools in OGAM. For an account-backed service, review the service's own access settings when you want to revoke its authorization too.

Give local AI one useful connection

Get OGAM, connect one MCP server, and complete one small lookup with a visible tool result. Once that works, add the app or service you actually need and keep its enabled tools focused on that task.
