This is for sure a joke, I think the market has already moved beyond that idea: Adding more developers doesn’t automatically make software development faster.
New team members need context, onboarding, support, and time to understand the codebase. More developers also mean more communication, coordination, reviews, dependencies, processes, and the more important: MORE MANAGEMENT.
More people can increase capacity, but only with the right planning, architecture, and timing.
Also, I believe some tasks simply can’t be split.
Now that AI is part of the development process, the equation is even more complex. AI can improve productivity, but it doesn’t replace technical judgment, clear requirements, good architecture, or effective teamwork.
Speed still doesn't mean just about adding more people. It’s about creating the right environment for the team to deliver.
