Quantum-Lattice (QL) is a proof-of-work chain written in Rust whose transactions are signed with ML-DSA-65 (NIST FIPS 204), a post-quantum signature scheme. Two upgrades are now live.
Fork 3: replay protection (live since block 36,450)
Payments are now signed over "QLTX2" || chain_id || sender || receiver || amount || nonce. The chain ID makes a signature valid on this chain only, and a per-account nonce means each signed payment can be included exactly once. Blocks apply their transactions all-or-nothing. Addresses, balances and keys are unchanged. Blocks you mine now also show up in your wallet's transaction history.
Easing 2: smoother recovery from stalls (live since block 37,000)
QL's miners come and go in bursts, so the chain sometimes goes quiet for a while. Under the old rule, difficulty only began to ease after a full hour without a block, so a stall of 30 to 45 minutes happened about once a day.
From block 37,000, if the previous block is more than 10 minutes old, the difficulty a new block must meet falls smoothly by 1 bit every 3 minutes, down to the same floor as before. The eased value applies only to that one block. The normal per-block controller (target 5 minutes) is unchanged, and the stored difficulty baseline is not affected by the easing.
What it does and doesn't do:
- Average block time stays at about 5 minutes. Only the long tail changes.
- It cannot make blocks appear when no one is mining. It caps the stall: once difficulty reaches its floor (about an hour after the last block at most, instead of several hours before), even a small miner finds a block in seconds.
- Any miner who switches on during a stall benefits immediately, because miners fetch a fresh template every few seconds.
It worked on its first real test
This morning a stall lasted about 30 minutes. A watcher polling the node's template showed:
- 36.00 bits for the first 10 minutes (the grace period),
- a smooth fall of about 0.17 bits per 30 seconds from 13:22,
- 29.29 bits when the next block landed at about 13:42, which is exactly what the rule predicts (36.00 − (1,830 − 600) / 180 ≈ 29.2),
- then the baseline reset to 35.58 = 36.00 + (300 − 1,830) / 3,600.
What you need to do
Nothing. It is a node-side consensus change: wallets, miners and the pool need no update. If you run your own node, update it to the build on GitHub before block 37,000 (already passed on the main network, so update now if you haven't).
Browser wallet tip: if you ever see a "nonce" error after the fork, press Ctrl+Shift+R to reload the page and drop the cached old version.
