Building 3 Alternate Spider-Man Suits With an AI Character Design Workflow

Spider-Man is everywhere again right now, which got me thinking about a specific experiment: could I keep one Spider-Man concept fixed and only swap the suit, three separate times, and end up with results that actually look distinct from each other?

Alternate suits aren't a new idea. Comics and movies have been doing suit variations for decades, so it seemed like a good test case for Spider-Man AI art generated with a repeatable workflow instead of one-off prompts.

I ran this using PixAI Studio, which functions as an AI character design generator, with the Tsubaki.3 model handling generation. Rather than writing three unrelated prompts from scratch, I locked in a single base character description and changed only the costume block each time. That produced three suits with a clear stealth build, a clear futuristic build, and a clear streetwear build.

None of this was an attempt to clone an existing, official Spider-Man suit down to the seam. These are original fan-art directions, all built off one shared base prompt with the suit portion swapped out.

Here's what came out of it.

What I Set Out to Build

Before getting into the setup, here's the quick spec for the three directions I pulled from one base concept.

1. Stealth Suit

Dark palette: black and deep red, low-light materials, minimal glow, built for a nighttime stealth read.

2. Futuristic Suit

Tech-forward build: sleek armor plating, metallic surfacing, glowing accent lines, futuristic web-pattern detailing for an advanced hero-suit look.

3. Streetwear Suit

Casual, city-native build: hoodie and jacket elements, sneakers, layered fits, a New York street aesthetic, while keeping Spider-Man's core color identity intact.

Three moods, three settings, one base concept underneath all of it. This is the core of a character costume design AI workflow: you're not rebuilding the character from zero each time, you're iterating on one variable.

Step 1: Spin Up a New Workspace in PixAI Studio

I opened PixAI Studio and hit Create New Workspace to get a blank canvas.

Nothing complex here. I didn't need a node graph with branches and dependencies, just one workspace where all three suit tests could live side by side for comparison later.

Step 2: Drop in an Image Node

From the toolbar at the bottom of the canvas, I used + Add Node → Image to create an Image Node.

Selecting it opens up the prompt field for that node. At this stage I left every setting at default. There was nothing I needed to override yet, so I didn't touch anything beyond the prompt field.

Step 3: Set the Model to Tsubaki.3

With the Image Node active, I opened the model selector and chose Tsubaki.3 from the list.

Tsubaki.3 stayed constant across all three suit generations. Keeping the model fixed while only varying the prompt is what makes the comparison in Step 8 actually mean something.

Step 4: Lock In One Base Spider-Man Prompt

Before touching any suit-specific details, I wrote a single Spider-Man description meant to anchor all three variations.

Here's the exact prompt I used:

"Spider-Man, full-body hero character design, standing in a confident dynamic pose, clearly visible costume, detailed character design, New York City atmosphere in the background, cinematic lighting, high-quality superhero fan art"

This was a scaffold, not a final suit. From here, each of the three variations kept this description close to unchanged and modified almost exclusively the costume portion, which is what keeps the outputs comparable rather than three unrelated images.

Step 5: Generate Suit #1: Stealth Spider-Man

For the first pass, I took the base prompt and appended a stealth-focused costume block.

I generated a handful of variations and picked the output closest to the intended look.

The matte black and deep red combo, plus the nighttime rooftop backdrop, pushed this one toward tactical and low-key rather than the classic hero-pose energy of the base prompt.

Step 6: Generate Suit #2: Futuristic Spider-Man

Second pass, same base description, this time with a tech-forward costume swap.

Here's the exact prompt I used:

The glowing panel lines and a brighter city backdrop gave this one a more polished, advanced feel than Stealth, while the silhouette stayed close enough to the classic proportions that Spider-Man was still instantly readable.

Step 7: Generate Suit #3: Streetwear Spider-Man

Third pass, same base description again, shifted this time toward a casual, urban costume direction.

This variation drifted furthest from a traditional hero look, hood up, joggers, sneakers, set street-level instead of on a rooftop, but the mask, emblem, and color palette kept it unmistakably Spider-Man.

Step 8: Line Up the Three Suits and Compare

With all three generated, I put them side by side to see how they actually held up against each other.

Stealth, Futuristic, and Streetwear - side by side

Color direction split three ways: matte black and deep red for Stealth, metallic red and blue with glow accents for Futuristic, a brighter, more casual red-and-blue mix for Streetwear. Material choice followed suit, tactical fabric versus armor plating versus layered streetwear, and that difference alone reshaped the silhouette of each design.

Mood and setting tracked the same split. Stealth read as the most serious, helped along by the nighttime rooftop. Futuristic read as the most polished, closer to a big-reveal hero moment. Streetwear read as the most grounded, partly because of the street-level scene instead of a skyline shot.

Of the three, Futuristic held onto the most of Spider-Man's traditional silhouette, so it landed as the most immediately recognizable at a glance. Streetwear pushed the concept furthest from a standard superhero costume while still keeping the character identifiable, which made it the biggest departure of the set.

By the end of this, PixAI Studio held up well as a lightweight superhero suit generator for running multiple concepts against one fixed base character.

Extending This Into More Outfit Variations

This same setup works as a general-purpose AI outfit generator well past these three suits. The entire method is: keep the base character fixed, change only the costume block. That scales to as many variations as you want to run.

Some directions worth testing: a fantasy suit, a samurai-inspired suit, a cyberpunk suit, a school or academy-style version, a post-apocalyptic suit, a winter suit, or a villain-inspired take.

I didn't generate all of these for this piece. They're just a starting list if you want to keep pushing the same setup further.

Tips for Better AI Character Outfit Designs

A few things that actually mattered while running this AI character outfit generator workflow:

Keep the base character description fixed. This is what made comparison possible, since pose, framing, and backdrop stayed constant while only the costume changed.

Change one costume direction per generation. Trying to merge "futuristic" and "streetwear" into a single prompt would likely land somewhere vague between the two instead of clearly hitting either.

Lean on a few strong material and color keywords. "Matte black and deep red" carried more weight for the Stealth suit than a long list of minor accessory details would have.

Run multiple generations before locking a result. Not every attempt hit the intended mood on the first try.

Keep every variation in one Studio workspace. This is what made the Step 8 side-by-side comparison simple to assemble afterward.

I Also Entered a Spider-Man Community Contest on PixAI

Once the three suits were done, I created one additional Spider-Man piece and used it to enter a community-run contest called Spider Man: One Night Above the City. It's community-hosted, not an official PixAI campaign, but the theme lined up well with what I'd already been building, so I put together a separate entry.

The contest piece didn't need to be one of the three plain suit tests. Instead, I built a standalone finished scene around the contest theme: Spider-Man mid-swing above a nighttime skyline, lit by the city below.

Before submitting, I checked both the live contest page and PixAI's official contest guidelines directly. Contest rules can be specific, and reference-image or image-to-image generations are listed as a disqualifying condition, so I generated this piece from a plain text prompt instead.

The Entry Itself

This is what I ended up submitting: Spider-Man swinging between skyscrapers at night, city lights doing most of the atmospheric work below. I kept the composition simple, one dynamic pose against a glowing skyline, rather than layering in extra detail. You can view the full entry here.

Wrapping Up

That's the full pipeline: spin up a workspace, add an Image Node, set the model to Tsubaki.3, write one base Spider-Man description, then swap only the suit block three times to land on three genuinely different results.
