Tracked links in Instagram DMs: measure which Reel actually converts

Most creators send a DM with a raw link and hope.

When someone comments a keyword and gets a private DM, the only way to know which post paid for itself is a tracked URL.

Why raw links lie

  • Instagram wraps or previews links differently by device
  • Multiple Reels can share the same offer URL
  • “DM sent” is not “clicked” and not “purchased”

Minimal tracking setup

  1. Comment keyword → one private DM (opt-in)
  2. DM contains a short tracked link (UTM or your own redirect)
  3. Destination is your offer / lead form / checkout
  4. Review clicks per post weekly — kill keywords that never click

What HitDM does

HitDM is built for that narrow job: Instagram comment keyword → one private DM + tracked link on the official Meta API. Free plan with real DMs. Flat Pro when you add lead capture.

Not a full ManyChat-style chatbot suite. Just the comment-to-DM conversion loop with measurement.

Checklist

  • One link per campaign, not a bio dump
  • Track at the DM, not only at the landing page ad account
  • Prefer Meta API messaging over unofficial bots so the account survives long enough to learn

If you cannot name which Reel drove last week’s DM clicks, you are flying blind.
