Village Square is a place to create small private groups with a forum for posting conversations. I originally started working on it to have a place to connect with family online without having to use Facebook and as a project to learn React.
You will have to register to use it, but that is the whole point. You are creating or joining small communities called villages. Anyone can create a village and invite others to join with their username.
There are email notifications and notifications will appear on your home page when anyone posts in one of your villages or if you are invited to a village.
You can also create photo albums and share them in your village. Be aware those images are not private but stored for free on imgbb.com
The link above goes to the news feed/blog but once you are logged in click the "Village Square" in the header from anywhere to return to the home page where you can create villages, find links to your villages and create photo albums. You will also find a settings menu where you can personalize your avatar some and select themes including dark mode themes.
This site was built with React and uses Firebase firestore for its database (which I have come to hate) and uses firebase for authentication.
