Every AI video tool starts with a control panel. Mine started with a fixed template, and that was the only reason it shipped.
Infinite control is a trap for a first release
When the first version exposes duration, motion, style, aspect ratio and seed, you are not giving the user power — you are giving them decisions they cannot evaluate. Users cannot tell a good seed from a bad one. They can tell whether the result looks right.
A fixed template makes the first release testable: one input, one output shape, one thing to judge.
24 seconds is a constraint that clarifies
A short fixed length forces three decisions:
- What has to happen in the first two seconds. Without a hook, nothing after it matters.
- What the loop point is. Short clips get watched twice, so the seam matters more than the ending.
- What the user can change. If the length is fixed, the variable has to be the subject, not the timeline.
The template is also the documentation
A fixed format answers the question "what will I get?" before the user clicks. That is worth more than a settings panel nobody understands.
Infinite control is a fine second version. For the first one, the zombie couple video template is the feature.
Notes from shipping a deliberately inflexible first version.
