HACKTOBERFEST - A journey for Open-Source

Hacktoberfest: Contribution Chronicles

✨ My Hacktoberfest 2025 Experience

Introduction

Hacktoberfest has always been one of those events that feels bigger than just coding — it’s about community, collaboration, and learning. For me, 2025 was the first year I truly engaged with it, not just as a contributor, but as a learner and explorer of the open-source world. I remember scrolling through repositories, hesitating to make my first PR, and wondering if my tiny contribution would even matter.

My Hacktoberfest Journey

I started small. My first PR was fixing a typo in a README — simple, but it sparked a sense of connection. Suddenly, I was part of conversations I had only observed before. Each pull request became a story: a problem I understood, a solution I offered, and a tiny piece of the global open-source puzzle I contributed to.

I learned not only about GitHub workflows but about patience, collaboration, and the joy of shared learning. Hacktoberfest made me realize that contribution isn't only about code; documentation, tutorials, and guides are equally powerful.

I really was not aware that how to make a Pull-request...😅
But As I participated in HACKTOBERFEST, My Point of View changed completely.

Highlights and Learnings

  • Overcoming Fear: I realized that asking for guidance and making mistakes is part of the learning process.
  • Collaboration: Reviewing others’ PRs taught me empathy and better communication.
  • Growth: By the end of the month, I had grown not only technically but also in confidence, understanding open source as a community rather than a solo effort.

My PRs & Contributions

Here’s a personal snapshot of the work I submitted during Hacktoberfest 2025:

No. PR Title Repository
1 Title: Implement new commands like MoveCommand & LsCommand PR: Drive-for-Java/MyCMD#28
2 Title: Added Random-Password-Generator PR: roseewood/Web-Dev-Mini-Projects#29
3 Title: Revise README with updated project details PR: Drive-for-Java/MyCMD#3

Each PR felt like a milestone — small wins that accumulated into a meaningful experience.

Reflection

Hacktoberfest is more than badges or prizes. It’s a bridge to the global open-source community. Through it, I experienced growth, connection, and a reminder that even small contributions can have a ripple effect.

To anyone considering participating: take the leap. Share your knowledge, learn from others, and celebrate every merged PR, no matter how small. Hacktoberfest is a journey, not just a month-long challenge.

Here’s to more contributions, learning, and community spirit! 🚀 @hacktoberfestteam
