This is a submission for the Google Cloud NEXT Writing Challenge
Overview: The Era of the Agentic Enterprise
Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian opened Next '26 with the declaration that the "era of the pilot is over" and the "era of the agent is here." The core theme was transitioning generative AI from experimental pilots into massive-scale enterprise production through autonomous agents capable of managing entire workflows.
Google Cloud Next26 Unveiled security at the speed of AI with security embedded with the unveiling of Gemini Enterprise

Gemini Enterprise Agent Platform: Announced as "mission control for the agentic enterprise," this is a full-stack system to build, scale, govern, and optimize agents. It expands Vertex AI to manage thousands of parallel agents with specialized roles.
Technology Pillars of the Agentic Stack
- AI Hypercomputer presentation by Amin Vahdat Google redefined compute as the entire data center, introducing purpose-built infrastructure:
Eighth Generation TPUs:
TPU v8T (Training): Redefined performance with nearly 3x compute performance per pod over previous generations, delivering 121 exoflops of FP4 compute per pod.
TPU v8I (Inference): Optimized for low latency, delivering 11.6 FP8 exoflops, a 9.8x increase in performance over the previous Ironwood pod.
Google Axion N48: Compute instances powered by a custom ARM CPU, delivering up to twice the price-performance and 80% better performance per watt than comparable x86 instances.
Nvidia Integration: Google Cloud will be among the first to offer the Nvidia Vera Rubin NVL72, achieving 10 times performance efficiency.
Virgo Network: Doubles connectivity to scale training beyond the super pod, linking 134,000 chips with 47 petabits per second of non-blocking bandwidth.
- Agentic Data Cloud presentation by Kartik Narayan Focusing on providing agents with trusted business context:
Knowledge Catalog: A universal context engine that eliminates dark data. It instantly tags, enriches, and makes "agent ready" files (PDFs, videos) landing in GCS.
Cross-Cloud Lakehouse: Built on the open Apache Iceberg standard, this allows analytical engines to reason over data stored in AWS or Azure without moving the data.
Lightning Engine for Apache Spark: Delivers up to 2x the price-performance over the previous market leader.
- Agentic Defense presentation introduced by Francis Souza demo by Wiz's Yinon Costica Co-Founder Autonomous security operating at machine speed:
Agentic SOC: Triage agents are turning 30-minute investigations into 60-second resolutions.
Whiz Integration: Google formally welcomed Wiz to Google Cloud. A joint demo showed "red agents" (friendly hackers) validating risks,
and "green agents" suggesting automated fixes to coding agents.
- Agentic Task Force presented by Carrie Tharp & Julie Quan Kim Pre-built, specialized agents operating alongside human teams:
Gemini Enterprise for Customer Experience: Pre-built shopping and food ordering agents handling journey from search to service.
Workspace Intelligence: A unified intelligence layer inside Workspace apps that eliminates context fragmentation. "Ask Gemini" can summarize chats, find specific documents based on context, and generate branded slide decks without leaving the app.
M365 Migration: Migrating organizations from Microsoft 365 to Google Workspace is now up to five times faster.
