For 18 days the US government kept Fable 5, Anthropic's most capable model, switched off. It came back today.
The temporary ban isn't really the story. The precedent is: a government can now reach in and disable an AI model that's already shipping, using rules built for weapons and chips. That doesn't go away just because the model is back.
