Talking to a companion with a face is nicer when you don't have to tap a button first.
Scowld has a hands-free wake mode. When it's on, the app listens on-device for a wake word, either "Bella" or your saved custom companion name, and starts voice recording when it hears it.
A few things worth calling out:
- The wake listening is on-device. It's the trigger that starts a recording, after which your configured speech-to-text provider handles transcription.
- The wake word follows your companion. Renamed your character to something custom? That name becomes the trigger.
- It pairs naturally with the rest of the voice loop: wake mode starts the recording, STT turns it into text, your chosen LLM replies, and the VRM character speaks the answer with lip sync.
This is the feature that makes Scowld feel like an actual companion sitting on your desk rather than an app you poke at. Say the name, talk, listen.
It's iOS only and built solo, MIT licensed if you want to see how the loop is wired.
