Templates to start a business as a Developer

This is a second part of the summary of Ben Orstein Talk at Laracon US 2023, in this article you would find different strategies to "discover" business ideas:

This is like xyz, but sucks less.

There are free competitors in the market, it should not be perfect, or even the best product that it could possible be, but if customers like it a little bit more, is better.

This template works a lot because, it is really easy to make something that business are already paying for and struggle lightly.

You can look dissatisfaction about a product, you can look at forums or tweets about a product, is a great way to find ideas.

Look at what you have built at work

Look at the internal tools that you are using at work, if a marketing department or an executive asked you to do something, you are already making something that businesses value and that is a wonderful source of new ideas.

The thing built to help with the other thing...

1 Have a good idea...
2 Pursue it
3 Make something that make it easier to achieve
4 The #3 is your product idea

Slack was a video-game company that builds a chat for, Slack pivots to use the chat as the real product.

Adam Wathan, has the idea to create a "better gum-road" built-in distribution platform... he built a css classes tool in order to create the platform... it turns to TailwindCSS framework... the real product was the CSS tool.

Conclusion

Lastly, I would add a phrase that heard from Taylor Otwell in his podcast "Laravel Snippets": "if it solves your problem, it probably would solves problem to many other people out there".

That's all folks, hope you found inspiration in this articles series about developers businesses, as always thanks for reading and happy code!
