#ai

I spent $3,100 on AI headshots to figure out which one is the best.

In this post, I will show you my results and show you the best AI headshot generators on the market.

This list has tools for free headshots, paid headshots, customizable headshots, and more.

Let’s start!

Top 3 Picks

Here’s a short summary of the top 3 AI headshot generators right now:

👉 1. BetterPic

👉 2. HeadshotsByAI

👉 3. Secta AI

Disclaimer: This post is supported by readers. It has some affiliate links at no cost to you. Thanks for the support!

Let’s move on to the results and more tools!

My Results: Quick Overview

This part is for the busy readers. I'll show you the top headshot generators with my favorite headshots.

1. BetterPic

BetterPic is my top pick for an AI headshot generator. It doesn’t just make amazing photos that really look like you, but it also lets you tweak them however you like. Plus, they have skilled human editors who add the final polish to your pictures.

2. HeadshotsByAI

HeadshotsByAI is another AI headshot generator I really like. The photos come out bright, clear, and very lifelike. The only downside is that you can’t make any edits to the pictures.

3. Secta AI

Secta AI is an excellent AI headshot generator that lets you create professional shots as well as more relaxed, casual photos. It also offers some of the top editing features out there. Plus, the Northern Lights style headshots are just stunning!

4. HeadshotPro

HeadshotPro is a solid and flexible AI headshot generator. It’s the only one here that also makes headshots for public speaking. Like the rest, it’s simple to use, and the photos turn out looking fantastic!

5. Try It On AI

TryItOn makes great-looking headshots for both social media and professional use. It offers plenty of ways to customize and edit your photos. You can even turn one of your headshots into a video if you’d like.

6. InstaHeadshots

InstaHeadshots is the top AI tool for making social media profile pictures. You can’t tweak the images, but the results are impressively good. Most of the time, I got selfies that were perfect for my social media accounts.

7. Headshot.Kiwi

HeadShot Kiwi isn’t the most well-known headshot generator, but it’s definitely a solid choice. It makes nice, realistic photos that look more natural and less awkward than what you get from many other tools out there.

8. Prophotos AI

ProPhotos is one of the top options for professional headshots. If you want to look sharp in a suit and get clear, realistic photos without spending a lot, this tool is a great pick. Just keep in mind it doesn’t offer editing or customization features.

9. PhotoPacks AI

Photopacks is a nice, budget-friendly headshot generator. It’s the most affordable option that still delivers quality photos. You won’t be able to edit the images, but you do get plenty of great headshots to choose from.

10. AI SuitUp

Another budget-friendly option on this list is AI SuitUp. It makes headshots that look a lot like those from the top tools but for less money. Just know that you can’t edit the photos with this one either.

11. The Multiverse AI

The Multiverse AI is one of the earliest AI headshot generators around. It’s not only one of the first, but it also lets you customize your photos nicely. All you have to do is describe the tool and what you’d like in your picture, and it will create it for you. The only drawback is that you can’t edit your images afterward.

12. Aragon AI

Aragon AI is one of the “OGs” of AI headshots, launched back in 2022. It helps you make realistic headshots that are great for professional use. It also comes with solid editing and customization options to fine-tune your photos.

13. Portrait Pal

If you’re after vintage-style profile photos, I’d suggest giving PortraitPal a try. The results might not be the very best, but the headshots have a calm, pleasant feel to them.

14. Fiverr AI Headshots

Fiverr is a freelancer marketplace, and as you’d expect, you can find AI headshot services there as well. It’s not really a tool, but more like hiring a professional editor who uses their own AI tech to make your headshots.

15. ChatGPT

In early 2025, ChatGPT updated its image generation technology, so now you can make AI headshots right here. All you need to do is upload a photo of yourself in the chat and ask it to turn it into a professional headshot.

16. Profilebakery

ProfileBakery isn’t the best AI headshot generator, but it’s not the worst either. It creates slightly artificial, 3D-style headshots that you can still use for professional purposes.

17. HeadshotMaster.io (Free)

Then there are the free AI headshot generators. With these, the quality goes down a lot because they rely on cheaper, free technology to make the images. Out of all the ones I tried, HeadshotMaster.io was the best free option.

18. AIEase (Free)

AIEase is probably the fastest headshot generator here. You don’t have to pay or even create an account. But because it’s free, the quality of the photos isn’t the greatest.

19. HeadshotPro (Free)

Then there are AI headshot tools that use background-swap technology. Instead of recreating your face, they only replace the background. HeadshotPro, for example, offers a free background changer with plenty of options you can pick from.

20. PFPMaker

PFPMaker is another AI headshot tool that simply swaps out your background. It gives you plenty of backgrounds to pick and lets you customize your photos in many ways.

21. Canva Headshot Generator

ChatGPT said:
Finally, last but not least, there’s Canva.

It’s not the top headshot maker, but it’s worth mentioning because it has a lot of handy features, and many people already use it.

These headshots work well for quick drafts or brainstorming if you’d rather stay inside the app.

Plus, the technology is improving, and there are already plenty of AI headshot apps in Canva that can help you get even better results.

But now, let's move on to the actual list with detailed reviews, results, final verdicts, and more. Hope you like it!

1. BetterPic

BetterPic is my all-time favorite AI headshot generator.

It gave me the best results overall and offered the most ways to customize my photos.

This tool has fantastic customization options, and the highlight is the human editing feature. A real editor goes over your pictures to make sure they really look like you (you get this with the Expert plan).

Let me show you some of the photos I created with it.

👉 Try BetterPic

My Experience

Before I show you the results, let me show you how to use it.

To start creating your headshots with AI, sign up here and read the rules. I got myself an expert plan to use the human edits feature later.

Then answer the basic questions about your characteristics:

Pick some styles for your photoshoots:

For the best results, I recommend choosing the three available styles.

Read the image instructions carefully.

This is the most important step because here you teach the AI what you look like.

You’re basically training the AI headshot generator to learn your features so it can place you in different settings later on.

I suggest using photos with different lighting, clothes, and poses to help the AI get the most accurate idea of your appearance.

Here are the images that I sent to the AI:

As you can see, those are just regular photos of me from my camera roll that I’ve taken over the years.

After I picked the images, the tool checked their quality and removed any with low resolution. Honestly, this part is the “hardest” because it can take some time to find enough good photos for the AI headshot generator.

But once I had my images ready, it was finally time to create my AI headshots.

It took roughly 30 minutes for the AI to create my headshots.

Here are the results:

That always makes me smile, even though I’ve looked at my AI headshots many times by now.

They’re just so good—really accurate, realistic, and crisp.

I’m actually using one of these photos on my LinkedIn profile too.

Here are some more close-up headshots that I got from BetterPic:

I won’t say that every single image turned out perfect.

Like BetterPic explains on the results page, most of the photos look great, some are just decent, and a few don’t come out quite right.

For example, in this one, you can see small artifacts on my face and teeth. They’re not huge, but you can notice them.

The nice thing about BetterPic is that you can fix those little AI flaws quickly and easily.

All you have to do is click the BP AI Edit button.

You can also ask the BetterPic team for a manual edit so they can make the photo look exactly like you.

That’s really helpful, especially if your team wants all the images to have a consistent look.

For example, here’s an AI headshot I got from BetterPic:

It looks good, but I’d like to switch up my outfit… Luckily, that’s easy to do with BetterPic thanks to its customization tools.

To change the clothes in one of your AI headshots, just pick the image and click “BP AI Edit.”

Pick the “Clothing” option from the AI edits. Here, I've picked a Christmas outfit:

Here are the results I got back after about 5 minutes of waiting:

Isn’t that cool? It’s the same picture as before, but now it has a Christmas theme.

I thought it was so fun that I decided to try a few more styles. So I asked the AI to put me in a dark suit and also dress me up like a doctor.

Here’s what it came up with:

What an incredible piece of AI this is.

The other customization options are really nice, too.

For example, you can expand your AI headshots.

Take this headshot—it looks great overall, but the problem is it feels a little too zoomed in for my taste.

To fix that, I just used the AI expand feature in the editing tools.

When I did this, the AI headshot generator added extra space to the top of the photo.

Isn’t that awesome?

Honestly, this is the best AI headshot tool out there. I really like how versatile it is and how much freedom you have to customize your photos.

You can also create headshots for your whole team.

If you click the top left corner, you’ll see your account, and right below that, there’s a Team option.

The team feature is fantastic. There’s an Admin view where you can invite your team members to make their headshots.

You can pick a shared style for everyone or let each person choose their own. Once your team has created their headshots, all the images show up in the Admin view for you to see.

This is really helpful because you don’t have to collect headshots one by one from everyone.

You can find a guide on how to use the BetterPic team feature here.

I really love BetterPic.

I think the biggest issue with many other headshot generators is that the results are just a 6/10 or 7/10, and you can’t edit or fix them. But with BetterPic, that’s not a problem because you can sort out most issues with the AI editing tools or the Human Edits feature.

👉 Try BetterPic

Pros

  • Faster than most AI headshot generators

  • Very realistic outputs with a lot of versatility

  • User-friendly interface.

  • AI customization options (background removal, eye color, attire changes) with human edits available

Cons

  • Picking images might take time. Also, the turnaround is about 30-60 minutes. That's not bad compared with real photoshoots, but it's still not instantaneous.

  • Sometimes the images have flaws (odd eyes, imperfect teeth), but this is similar. to all the other AI headshot generators.

Pricing

  • Basic: $35 (one time)

  • Pro: $39 (one time)

  • Expert: $79 (one time)

⭐ My Grade ⭐

  • Realistic: 4.7/5

  • Customizable: 4.9/5

  • Waiting time: 4.0/5

  • Value for money: 4.8/5

  • Total: 4.6/5

👉 Try BetterPic

To Take Home

I love BetterPic. The results look realistic, and it’s also quicker than most other AI headshot generators.

You get a lot of ways to customize and edit your photos, even with help from a real human editor on their team.

This is the best. It’s the standard I’ll use to compare all the other tools on this list.

Just keep in mind that your own features can affect the results. Even with the top AI headshot generators, I’ve heard of people having issues. For example, one person said the AI kept giving them short hair even though they actually have long hair, which isn’t ideal.

👉 Try BetterPic

2. HeadshotsByAI

Next, let me introduce HeadshotsByAI. This is another AI headshot generator that takes your photos from your camera roll and turns them into professional-looking images.

The results are very sharp and clear, almost as good as BetterPic. Honestly, I’d probably rank this tool at the very top if it weren’t for one thing—it doesn’t let you edit your AI headshots. You can only view and download them.

Let me show you some of the photos I got.

My Experience

Once again, let me start by showing you how to use this tool if you’d like to try it out yourself. After that, I’ll share the results I got.

First, go to the HeadshotsByAI homepage and sign up.

Pick the “Personal Branding” option to begin creating photos of yourself.

Then, from the dashboard, select your gallery:

Add your details, such as gender, eye color, and more.

Then, pick the input images of yourself. Here are the ones I used:

Then hit “Start training”. This sends your photos to the “AI photographer” to train with.

It takes a second for the AI to create your headshots. I'd say it took about 60 minutes for me.

The tool lets you know once the images are ready with an email.

Here are my results:

Pretty amazing, right?

These look so realistic you’d never know they were made by AI.

Here are a few more photos the AI created for me:

I really love the lighting and the outfits in these photos.

The quality and lighting here are better than any other tool I’ve tried.

That said, in some shots, my forehead looks a bit too tall—but that’s probably just me overanalyzing after years of staring at myself in the mirror.

There are also a few little flaws, like some messed-up teeth and skin that looks too smooth:

Pros:

  • Quicker than most AI headshots

  • Very realistic headshots with only 8 input photos

  • User-friendly interface that takes no time to learn how to use

Cons:

  • 60 minutes of waiting is slower than the fastest AI headshots

  • No editing options out there!

  • Some images look uncanny and not too realistic

Pricing

  • Basic: $29 for 30 headshots

  • Standard: $39 for 60 headshots

  • Premium: $59 for 120 headshots

⭐ My Grade ⭐

  • Realistic: 4.6/5

  • Customizable: 0/5

  • Waiting time: 4.0/5

  • Value for money: 4.5/5

  • Total: 4.3/5

To Take Home

These are definitely some of the best headshots out there. I couldn’t recommend them more.

The only downside is that you can’t customize the images, and honestly, that’s something you almost need when using AI headshots. Because of that, HeadshotsByAI can feel a bit pricey since other top tools give you similar results plus editing features.

One area where HeadshotsByAI really stands out is the lighting. I think these photos have the best lighting of any AI headshot generator I tested. The images are also very sharp, which I like.

The main issue is you can’t fix the pictures where the AI didn’t get everything right. Sometimes the eyes look a little blank, or the lips and teeth are off.

Still, it’s definitely worth trying!

👉 Try HeadshotsbyAI

3. Secta AI

Secta AI is a great AI headshot generator that can turn your selfies into headshots in all sorts of styles.

These styles range from casual selfies to formal, professional photos.

Also, as a Finnish guy myself, I have to point out the Aurora Borealis style headshots—I thought those were amazing.

But instead of spending more time talking it up, let me show you my experience with the tool and walk you through how to use it.

My Experience

Let me start by showing you how to create your headshots with Secta AI.

First, head over to their homepage.

It’ll quickly prompt you to choose a plan. This part is simple because there’s only one paid option for $49.

Just keep in mind there’s a hidden cost—the edits cost an extra $5–$20 per month if you want to use them. I’ll explain more about that later.

After you’ve purchased a package, you’ll set your preferences, like your gender, ethnicity, and hair color.

Pick your headshot styles.

You can pick the types of headshots you’d like to create from the list of options, depending on what you like in the previews. You can choose up to 20 styles for your headshots.

Then comes the hardest part—the tool will ask you to upload a bunch of photos of yourself.

In fact, you’ll need to upload at least 20 photos of yourself here, which is more than what most other tools require. It can take quite a bit of time to track down that many good pictures.

One thing I liked was that this tool accepts HEIC images—I have a lot of those on my Mac for some reason. If you do too, you don’t need to convert them. Just drag and drop them right in.

Then, after you’ve uploaded your images, go to the next screen.

Here, the tool will ask you to pick your favorite photo:

Once you click “Submit,” the tool starts generating your AI headshots. This part takes a bit of time. For me, it was about 3 hours from sending everything in to getting the finished photos.

But you don’t have to sit around waiting. Just keep an eye on your email, and when you get a message like this, your headshots are ready:

Here is my AI headshot results that I got from this tool:

There are more than 20 images in each section, so I think I ended up with over 140 AI headshots in total.

Here are a few more headshots that Secta created for me:

Let me give you a closer look:

I mean, aren’t those incredible?

The aurora borealis image is especially great—it not only looks like me but also feels like it’s straight from my country.

They’re just awesome!

This tool also lets you edit your headshots if you want to tweak them.

However, the edits aren’t free. You’ll have to sign up for a monthly paid plan to use them, which was a first for me.

All the other headshot generators either include edits or let you buy credits, but this one charges up to $20 per month.

For example, here I’m editing one of the Northern Lights headshots to give myself a red outdoor outfit.

After 5 minutes, I got these:

Let me zoom in a bit so you can see better.

Here are three images that turned out really well with the red outfit added:

If you compare those with this original AI-generated photo, you can tell the difference better:

That's so cool, I had to ask for more:

After just a few minutes, here’s what I got back:

Here’s a zoomed-in version of one of them:

The only downside is that these edits make the images look a bit less realistic. The edges around me kind of look like I was copy-pasted into the scene.

Still, with these editing tools, you can change the background, switch your clothes, redo certain images, and more.

Pros

  • You get over 140 high-detail AI headshots

  • Great variety of styles, including the Aurora Borealis look from Finland or somewhere North

  • Simple $49 pricing with one plan

  • HEIC image support

  • Notification when headshots are ready

Cons

  • Some images come out badly or uncannily

  • Edits can’t really do much for the worst headshots

  • Edits cost extra ($5–$20/month), not included

  • Needs 20+ photos to start, which is a lot

  • 3+ hours of waiting time

  • No free trial

Pricing

There’s just one $49 one-time fee for personal headshots. For companies and communities there are bigger plans.

⭐ My Grade ⭐

  • Realistic: 4.6/5

  • Customizable: 4.7/5

  • Waiting time: 3.5/5

  • Value for money: 4.4/5

  • Total: 4.2/5

To Take Home

I really love my Secta AI headshots. This tool gave me mostly great results.

With most AI headshot generators, only about 5–10% of the photos turn out truly good, and the rest aren’t usable.

But with Secta, around 20–25% of the images were ones I’d consider using.

The editing features are also very complete and give you a lot of options. The only downside is that you have to pay a monthly fee to access those edits.

👉 Try Secta AI Headshots

4. HeadshotPro

HeadshotPro is another awesome AI headshot generator that allows you to create not only those regular headshots, but also the public speech images.

My Experience

To use it, just ign up for the service.

Upload your images:

Specify your details and characteristics for the AI to know you better.

Then just wait.

It can take a bit longer during busy times, but usually, creating the AI headshots takes around 1–2 hours.

The team will send you an email as soon as your headshots are ready.

Here's one of my favorite AI headshots that I got compared side-by-side with my real image:

It’s not just one image you get—you actually receive a whole bunch of them.

Here are some more really great results I got:

Realistic, sharp, and versatile. I really like them.

Also, those public speech headshots are super cool. I don’t think any other software offers that feature right now.

But the closer you look, the more you can see that some of the images look a bit fake. I’d say about 80–90% of the results fall into that category.

The good thing is you can still edit the headshots if you want.

For example, here I asked the AI to add a café background to my headshots:

👉 Try HeadshotPro

Pros

  • Realistic results

  • High-quality AI headshots with nearly perfect lighting

  • It's a lot faster than a photographer

  • Good customization features and AI edits anyone can use

Cons

  • Edits only make new headshots — do not edit the existing ones

  • It can be very pricey for some people

  • Some images are “artificial” and not too realistic which, to be fair, is a problem with all these tools

Pricing

  • Basic: $29

  • Professional: $39

  • Executive: $59

⭐ My Grade ⭐

  • Realistic: 4.5/5

  • Customizable: 3.5/5

  • Waiting time: 3.9/5

  • Value for money: 4.3/5

  • Total: 4.2/5

My Take

I love HeadshotPro and the results it gave me.

In my opinion, it’s one of the best tools out there.

The only downside is that some of the photos look a bit artificial, and in quite a few of them, I look kind of tired.

It also doesn’t have the human edits you get with BetterPic.

But the really cool part about this AI headshot generator is that it lets you create those public speech images. They look fantastic, and I don’t think any other tool does that (other than ChatGPT).

I’d definitely give it a try. These pictures are seriously great for social media profiles.

5. Try It On AI

Try It On AI is one of the best AI headshot tools available. It creates realistic images and is the fastest paid headshot generator on this list.

You can also do lots of customizations and edits, and there’s even a professional human editor who can polish your photos for the final touch.

The only downside is that you’ll need to pay a fair amount to get the very best results.

Let me show you some of the images I created with it.

My Experience
To start using it, first, head over to their home page and sign up for the service.

Pick the Professional plan! There, you’ll get 100 headshots, which is usually the optimal number to get at least a handful of actually usable, good images.

Then, read the uploading instructions next.

Specify your details and upload your selfies or any other good or at least decent images of yourself.

Sometimes the upload fails if your images are too small. If that happens, just pick a different photo instead.

Next, choose your photoshoot styles. There are plenty of AI headshot styles you can pick from.

Specify your characteristics.

Once the selfie validation is done, just hit “send.”

When the AI finishes creating your images, you’ll get an email letting you know they’re ready.

For me, this only took about 10 minutes. It was crazy fast—but are the results any good?

Here are the photos I got:

One cool thing is that the images come in different sizes.

Almost every other tool on the list forces you to stick to one aspect ratio, but here you get all kinds of formats.

Also, these definitely look like me.

And don’t forget—you can edit your photos with AI, too. Just click on any image to enlarge it, then pick one of the editing options in the top left corner of the screen:

For example, you can change the background, remove objects, re-create images, and more. You can even make a video of yourself if you want.

Just make sure you save the email or catalog link because you can’t actually sign in to Try It On AI. That link is the only way to get back to your images later.

Pros:

  • Cheaper than a lot of other AI headshot generators.

  • Very easy to use—just upload your selfies and wait about an hour.

  • Realistic results that actually look like you.

  • Nice editing and customization options.

  • Good variety and different image sizes.

  • Little to no artifacts in most photos.

Cons:

  • Some images might fail or not look much like you.

  • A few pictures have a bit of a 3D-rendered feel.

  • The customizations are there, but they aren’t the best. If you’re not sure how to use them, they can fail easily and just waste your credits.

Pricing

That’s epic! But what about the pricing of this service?

  • 20 Headshots: $35

  • 50 Headshots: $49

  • 100 Headshots: $61

⭐ My Grade ⭐

  • Realistic: 3.2/5

  • Customizable: 4/5

  • Waiting time: 3/5

  • Value for money: 3.2/5

  • Total: 4.0/5

To Take Home

Try It On AI is also really good.

The results are some of the best I’ve seen. The tool is super fast, and it offers plenty of customization options.

Just keep in mind that your experience might be different. For me, this still isn’t the very best because BetterPic is so far ahead of everything else right now.

The only big downside here was the user experience.

Honestly, it was pretty bad. I felt confused using the app—there were no alerts or warnings, but I still couldn’t figure out how to keep going with my headshots.

Before I saw the results, it felt like I’d wasted my time and money. But after I got through all the hassle and finally saw the photos, I thought it was worth including in this list.

👉 Try Try It On AI

6. InstaHeadshots

InstaHeadshots is the best AI tool for making social media profile pictures.

It’s not exactly marketed that way, but in my opinion, that’s where it really shines. The results look great, the lighting is spot on, and most of the images came out as selfies I’d be happy to post on places like Instagram.

Let me show you some of the photos I got from InstaHeadshots.

My Results

Let me start by showing you how to use InstaHeadshots. After that, I’ll share the results I got with it.

First, head over to this page.

Then sign up for the service.

You can use your Google account to make it easier and skip creating yet another password.

Create your profile.

Pick a plan.

Read the rules and instructions for uploading the images.

Then it's time to upload your photos, answer a couple of questions, and just wait for the AI to create your images.

Click on your profile to view your images (once the AI is ready, that is).

Then, click this page:

And there are your results:

Notice that you can't edit your images with InstaHeadshots. That's a bit of a miss. However, the results are so good that usually there's no need to do anything about them anyway.

I mostly got selfies out of this tool. I think that makes it the best social media AI image generator.

Here are some images:

Here are more:

Those look accurate to me, at least.

Notice that the images contain watermarks before you download them, even if you have paid for them.

But those go away when you download the headshots.

The watermarks are just there to ensure you're not using your headshots if you cancel the paid plan.

Pros

  • Faster than traditional photoshoots, with just 15 minutes of selecting images and about 60 minutes of waiting

  • The headshots look accurate and realistic

  • There’s a free option available! That's behind a queue, but it's still there

InstaHeadshots is a solid pick for AI-generated profile pics, especially for social media.

Some of the selfies come out looking a little too perfect—kind of airbrushed and fake. That’s a dead giveaway. But others? Spot-on and totally realistic.

There’s a free option, but expect to wait in line.

The biggest downside? No editing features. It’s frustrating when a photo is almost right—maybe the lighting’s weird or the angle’s off—but you can’t tweak it or regenerate just that one. You’re stuck with what you get.

Still, if you need AI-powered Instagram pics (or just sharp selfies), give InstaHeadshots a shot. When it nails it, the results are seriously impressive. The reason it’s not higher on my list? The hit-or-miss quality. Out of 100 images, I’d only keep 5–10.

7. Headshot.Kiwi

Headshot.Kiwi is one of the best AI headshot tools right now. It’s quick, delivers realistic photos, and is pretty straightforward to use.

The only reason it’s not higher on the list? You can’t fine-tune or customize the results. Once the AI spits out your photos, what you see is what you get—no tweaks allowed.

Now, let me show you how mine turned out.

My Experience

Head over to their page to sign up and give it a try.

Go for the top-tier plan—it gives you 100 headshots, and that’s the sweet spot based on my experience with these tools.

With AI, some shots will always turn out weird or off. But when you’ve got dozens (or better yet, hundreds) to pick from, you’re bound to find gems in the mix.

Just stick to the site’s instructions, and pay extra attention to the image guidelines. Small details make a big difference!

This way, you’ll get the best results.

Once you’ve got the guidelines down, upload a variety of photos to the AI headshot generator. The more (and better) your input, the sharper your outputs will be.

Regular selfies or phone pics work fine—that’s the magic here. You don’t need fancy studio shots when AI can polish your casual snaps into pro headshots.

But fair warning: this tool’s interface is a nightmare. Clunky, confusing, just bad.

Case in point: Here’s what went down when I uploaded my photos...

Also, it was hard to start creating the headshots since there were “errors” in my inputs that I had no idea how to get rid of.

Nonetheless, once the images are uploaded, hit “Start AI photoshoot.”

Then just kick back and wait.

The AI usually spits out your headshots in under an hour. But heads up—this tool won’t ping you when they’re done, so set a reminder to check back. Otherwise, you might forget!

And now... here’s how mine turned out:

The results are solid.

Some of these are legit social-media-ready—good enough that I’d use them myself.

But let’s be real: this feels like someone’s weekend coding experiment. The interface drags, freezes, and has zero intuitive flow compared to competitors.

Yes, it's one of the best tools out there, but it's terrible to use.

Pros

  • Good and realistic results that I could use on my social media

  • Variety and versatility in the headshots

  • Most shots come out clean, with almost no glitches

Cons

  • Some images are just off by a mile

  • There's a 3D vibe in some of the photos

  • No editing options for worst headshots

Pricing

  • Starter: $29

  • Professional: $39

  • Executive: $59

⭐ My Grade ⭐

  • Realistic: 3.9/5

  • Customizable: 3/5

  • Waiting time: 5/5

  • Value for money: 3.5/5

  • Total: 3.9/5

Headshot.Kiwi delivers. Some of the best AI headshots I’ve gotten.

But no customization + long waits knock it down a few spots.

And the UX? Straight-up broken. Crashed mid-upload, zero warnings—felt like a weekend side project.

Yet the results shine. If you can tolerate the jank, it’s worth it.

Just brace for patience.

8. Prophotos AI

Prophotos AI is another excellent AI headshot generator. It’s a solid alternative to DreamWave AI, which is another popular tool I’ve tried.

My Experience

First, take a look at the intro video on their page. (I’ll cover the same info here, too.)

Check the instructions first.

Here are my real images:

Pick your gender and eye color:

Hit “Start” and wait for about 30-60 minutes. You can close the window. The tool notifies you once your headshots are ready.

Here are my results that I got from ProPhotos AI headshot generator:

These have a similar vibe to the ones PortraitPal created. I like them—super realistic, natural, and calming.

I could definitely see myself using one of these on LinkedIn.

By the way, let me show you just how much progress this tool has made.

Here are the AI headshots I generated with it only 8 months ago:

Those looked impressive then. But today, that’s basic.

However, ProPhotos made a massive change to their system, and now they can create super realistic images.

Here are the new ones:

That’s a huge improvement!

They did remove the replicate feature, though, which is a bit disappointing.

Before, I could create similar images like this:

But now, that’s no longer an option.

Also, since they didn’t add editing features, this tool ranks lower on my list.

All you can do is view and download the photos:

Pros:

  • Realistic, versatile headshots with different backgrounds and scenes.

  • Reworking feature to improve AI-generated images.

  • Faster than most other AI headshot tools.

  • Accepts a wide range of photo qualities—no need to upscale your pictures.

Cons:

  • Some images didn’t look as much like me compared to the top tools on this list.

  • A few photos were low resolution or had a slight “robotic” vibe, though most turned out really well!

Pricing

  • Basic: $25

  • Premium: $55

  • Professional: $155

⭐ My Grade ⭐

  • Realistic: 4.5/5

  • Customizable: 0/5

  • Waiting time: 4.2/5

  • Value for money: 4.1/5

  • Total: 3.8/5

ProPhotos is an affordable AI headshot generator that really steps up your selfies using AI.

Out of the 100 photos I received, I liked at least 10 of them.

The big downside is the lack of customization options.

Still, the results are solid, especially for the low price. Plus, this tool has come a long way in the past year or so.

The last time I tried it, the images looked artificial and pretty bad.

But now, it’s one of the top 10 AI headshot tools available, which is a huge improvement.

9. PhotoPacks AI

As you can see, traditional headshots usually cost quite a bit. But I’m happy to share a cheaper alternative that delivers just as good results.

I’m talking about PhotoPacks AI.

This tool creates fantastic headshots for only $19.

My Experience

I’ll show you how easy it is to use PhotoPacks AI first.

First, you need to sign up for PhotoPacks AI.

Click on “Get Your Headshots”.

Then buy the AI photo pack:

Answer the questions about your features and characteristics. This helps the AI learn who you are so it can create headshots that suit you better.

Next, you get to pick the main style for your AI headshots. I chose the business style.

Then, upload your images to the AI.

Be sure to follow the instructions carefully to get the best possible AI headshots in return.

Here are my real images:

Then just wait.

This tool is a bit slower than others.

For me, it took about 4 hours to get my headshots, but they mention it can take up to 24 hours.

You’ll get an email as soon as your headshots are ready.

Here are some AI headshots I received from PhotoPacks AI:

They look just like me! The photos are versatile, well-lit, and mostly flawless.

Here are some more AI headshots I received:

Here’s my favorite business-style AI headshot that I got from PhotoPacks:

Speaking of least favorites, don’t get discouraged if you end up with a lot of headshots you can’t use.

For example, here’s one of my least favorite shots:

I think most of the headshots turned out okay or even great. There weren’t as many misses as I expected from a budget-friendly tool. Overall, I’d say the results are on par with other AI headshot generators.

Pros

  • Easy to use: just sign up, answer a few questions, upload your photos, and wait.

  • Realistic results: the photos look like you and feel very natural, based on my experience.

Cons

  • No customization: you only get the images as they are. If a photo isn’t great, you can’t fix it.

  • Long wait times: it can take up to 24 hours to create your headshots, which is slower than most other tools.

Pricing

PhotoPacks headshots only cost $19.

⭐ My Grade ⭐

  • Realistic: 4.2/5

  • Customizable: 0/5

  • Waiting time: 4.0/5

  • Value for money: 4.3/5

  • Total: 3.7/5

My Take

I’m a fan of my AI headshots—I found plenty that really look like me out of the 100+ photos I received.

I think these work great for resumes and professional networking profiles.

I wouldn’t use AI for big life moments like weddings, but if you want to look sharp online without the hassle of photo shoots, outfit planning, or awkward posing, it’s way easier.

The downside is that it can be hit or miss, and you can’t adjust the photos on PhotoPacks. But since you get so many images, you’re bound to find a few solid ones.

👉 Try PhotoPacks AI

10. AI SuitUp

AI SuitUp is one of the best AI headshot tools out there, and it comes with a price tag under $30.

The only reason it’s not higher on my list is that it doesn’t let you customize your AI photos. But most of the time, the results are good enough that you won’t really need to.

Let me show you some of the images I got using it.

My Experience

Let me first show you how to use this tool before I show you my result headshots.

First, head over to this page.

I recommend the Professional plan since it gives you 100 headshots.

That said, you can try the Basic plan first to see how things look, and the price doesn’t affect the quality of the images.

Make sure to read the instructions carefully because this is the step where the AI learns what you look like and what kinds of headshots it should create for you.

Then, as the next step, add your details and characteristics.

Upload your selfies—just pick photos from your phone’s camera roll or wherever you keep them. They don’t have to be professional shots.

Sometimes the upload can fail if your images are too small. If that happens, just pick a different photo.

The tool will then ask you to upload your best photo, which the AI will use as the main base image.

Hit “send” once the image validation process is ready.

Wait for an hour or two.

Once the AI finishes creating your images, you’ll get an email letting you know your AI-generated photos are ready.

No need to wait around—the process took me about 60 to 120 minutes.

Just click the link in the email to see your headshots.

Here are the results I got:

Those definitely look like me.

Feel free to use the like/dislike buttons to weed out the bad images from your gallery.

Make sure you save the email or catalog link because you can’t sign in to AI SuitUp. That link is the only way to access your images later.

Pros:

  • Cheaper than many other AI headshot generators.

  • Easy to use—just upload your selfies and wait about an hour.

  • Realistic results that really look like you.

  • Good variety and versatility in the photos.

Most images have little to no artifacts.

Cons:

  • Some images might not turn out well or look like you.

  • A few photos have a bit of a 3D-rendered feel.

No customization options—you have to be happy with the photos you get.

Pricing

  • Basic: $27 (Originally $59)

  • Professional: $37 (Originally $69)

  • Ultimate: $57 (Originally $99)

⭐ My Grade ⭐

  • Realistic: 3.9/5

  • Customizable: 0/5

  • Waiting time: 3/5

  • Value for money: 4.0/5

  • Total: 3.7/5

To Take Home

AI SuitUp is really good, too.

The results are some of the best I’ve seen, making it a solid top 10 AI headshot generator.

But the wait time, and especially the lack of customization options, place it a bit lower on my list this time.

11. The Multiverse AI

The Multiverse AI is one of the OGs in the AI headshot world. It was actually one of the first generators I tried.

This tool lets you create amazing AI headshots for just $29. What’s unique is that it lets you customize your images by giving the AI a prompt describing what you want to see.

So far, it’s the only tool that offers this kind of control.

Let’s check out the results!

My Experience

To create AI headshots, go to this page and click “Get your photos”.

Don’t take a series of selfies!

Upload your images. Here are my images:

As you can see, these are mostly close-up headshots or selfies.

Multiverse AI includes an editor you can use to crop your images. Make sure to go through each photo and crop it according to the guidelines.

One problem I ran into was that the tool flagged almost every image I uploaded. That happened because the photos were too small.

You can use an AI upscaler if this happens to make your image bigger.

Do this with every image until you have 12 images.

Add your email address to get notified when the images are ready.

Then it’s time to hit “Upload” and wait.

In my experience, the AI took about 60 minutes to create the images. You can close the window since everything runs online, and you can even turn off your computer after submitting.

Once the AI is done, you’ll get an email like this:

Here are some of my best results that I got from The Multiverse AI headshot generator:

That’s awesome!

These look completely real to me. The one on the far right might be a bit less accurate, but the two on the left? I’m honestly speechless!

Here are a few of the real photos I uploaded:

The resolution and lighting aren’t perfect, but the AI still did an amazing job capturing my facial features and putting me into those professional-looking images.

Here are some more AI-generated headshots of me:

There are tons of images like these—I’d guess there are around 100 AI-generated professional headshots in total.

You’ve got to give this a try, especially with the AI custom feature that lets you tell the AI exactly what you want in your photos.

After your images are ready, you can head over to the custom page at themultiverse.ai/custom/.

Pros:

  • Realistic headshots that look professionally done.

  • A good variety of images with different backgrounds and settings.

  • Great for resumes or LinkedIn profiles.

  • High-resolution photos with no obvious “robotic” or AI look.

Cons:

  • You have to wait over 60 minutes for the results.

  • Some images still have a slight artificial vibe, especially with the newer models.

  • Many of my photos weren’t perfect for the AI to analyze.

  • No free trial available.

Pricing

The Multiverse AI costs $29.00.

⭐ My Grade ⭐

  • Realistic: 3.5/5

  • Customizable: 4.2/5

  • Waiting time: 4.0/5

  • Value for money: 3.6/5

  • Total: 3.5/5

This tool lets you tell the AI exactly what kind of images you want to create of yourself.

As far as I know, it’s the only one that offers that level of customization. That’s why it ranks high on my list. However, the results aren’t quite as good as the very best tools out there.

But like I said before, results can vary. They’ve put a lot of effort into developing the tool, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the results get better the next time I try it in a few months.

12. Aragon AI

[Aragon AI headshot generator page](https://www.codingem.com/recommends/aragon-ai/)Aragon AI headshot generator page

Aragon AI is an AI portrait generator that’s great for LinkedIn and other professional networking profile photos.

This tool also lets you customize your images.

Let’s check out what it created using my photos.

My Experience

First, go to the homepage and sign up.

Then, click on “Create Headshots” to begin the headshot generation process.

Answer the questions, like your age:

Pick the main style from the three options. I chose the business casual style.

Upload some photos to the tool.

But first, make sure to read the instructions carefully.

Upload your real selfies. These are the actual photos I used as inputs:

Review your details and double-check everything to make sure it’s all correct:

Send your real photos and wait for the AI to create your headshots.

Aragon AI will email you in about 30 minutes to let you know your headshots are ready.

Here are my results that I got from Aragon AI:

Remember that these are AI-generated headshots! Nothing is real here.

These look good to me, though nothing too wild compared to what some of the other tools produced.

Here are a few more images the AI created for me:

If you’re not happy with some of the images, you can click the Edit button to make AI adjustments.

I’d say about 80% of my Aragon headshots look so realistic that even my friends couldn’t tell they weren’t real photos.

Pros:

  • Realistic, sharp, and high-quality results.

  • Faster than most AI headshot generators.

  • The updated AI creates even more lifelike images.

  • Lots of editing features that other platforms don’t have.

Cons:

  • Some poses look a bit awkward. I prefer the simpler ones where I’m just standing or sitting, rather than the ones with hand movements.

  • A few photos look unrealistic or morphed, but that’s a common issue with all AI headshot tools.

Pricing

  • Starter: $35 for 20 headshots

  • Basic: $45 for 60 headshots

  • Premium: $75 for 100 headshots

⭐ My Grade ⭐

  • Realistic: 3.0/5

  • Customizable: 4.2/5

  • Waiting time: 4.0/5

  • Value for money: 3.3/5

  • Total: 3.3/5

Aragon is great and one of the best when it comes to customization.

That said, some of the AI headshots felt a bit “overfitted.” I was making strange hand gestures, and overall, I didn’t look quite as much like myself compared to other tools on this list.

But of course, your experience might be different. Definitely worth considering.

13. Portrait Pal

Portrait Pal turns your selfies into professional AI headshots.

It’s super easy to use—just upload your photos, wait a little, and get 100 beautiful images back.

This tool specializes in vintage-style headshots with plenty of variety.

These look realistic and pretty close to how I actually look.

To create your own AI headshots, head over to this page.

Click on “Create Your Headshots Now.”

First, you’ll need to sign up:

Next, start creating your images by specifying your details, like your gender, age, and so on.

Then, upload some photos of yourself.

This helps the AI learn what you look like so it can create a portrait that matches you.

But before you upload, make sure to read the instructions carefully.

Use only clear photos—no other people in the frame, and avoid silly faces.

This helps the AI get an accurate idea of how you look in different situations.

Just drag and drop your images here, like this:

Wait for your images to be generated.

You’ll get an email as soon as they’re ready.

Here are the images I received:

That’s pretty cool, if you ask me.

These photos have fewer artifacts and blemishes compared to most other tools I’ve tested.

By far, this is one of the best AI headshot generators out there.

Definitely give it a try!

Pros:

  • Fast turnaround—30 to 45 minutes compared to days or weeks with a real photographer.

  • Highly realistic results.

  • Wide variety of images featuring different scenes, lighting, and outfits.

Cons:

  • User experience issues, like allowing duplicate uploads and a lenient rejection policy.

  • No editing options—you can only view and download your images.

14. Fiverr AI Headshots

You’ve probably heard of Fiverr—it’s one of the most popular and trusted freelancer websites out there.

But maybe you haven’t heard about the Fiverr AI headshot gigs?

On Fiverr, you can hire photo editors who use their own AI headshot generators to create photos of you. You can also ask for revisions and give feedback to get better images without paying extra for the same gig.

The only downside is that it’s not fast. For me, the gig took about 6 hours, but if I remember right, the default turnaround time is 24 hours or more.

My Experience

Let me show you the results I got from Fiverr’s AI headshot makers.

Just a reminder—this isn’t an AI tool itself, but a person you hire to create your headshots using their own AI software.

I hired someone named Ghanou K because he seemed like the most promising headshot maker.

To get headshots made, pick a freelancer who specializes in this area. You can search for “AI headshots” on Fiverr to find experts.

Once you’ve chatted with your chosen freelancer, they’ll send you a custom offer to review.

You can either accept or decline the offer. For me, the headshots cost 23€, which is about $25.

After I accepted, I sent my real photos to the headshot creator:

Then the gig started.

The next day, I checked back to see my results. Here’s what I found:

Those look pretty epic, don’t they? But when I zoomed in, some of the images were a bit blurry and not super realistic.

No worries, though.

I just asked my freelancer to create new ones and fix the old ones.

Revisions available on FiverrRevisions available on Fiverr

I told my fixes that I wanted to see in my images:

Then I waited a couple of hours and got my updated headshots back:

These are way better! Now I’ve got a whole bunch more to choose from—AI action figure headshots, winter styles, celebration themes, and fan headshots.

Pros:

  • Real humans work on your headshots.

  • You can ask for revisions if you’re not happy with the results.

  • Good, realistic photos that look pretty much like you.

Cons:

  • This isn’t an AI tool—it’s a person creating the headshots, which might feel inconvenient to some.

  • The results were great for me, but they might vary for others.

Pricing

Pricing varies quite a bit among different creators on Fiverr. Some charge as low as $10, while others go up to $50. I’d recommend checking the headshot maker’s ratings and picking someone based on their reviews and reputation.

⭐ My Grade ⭐

  • Realistic: 4.4/5

  • Customizable: 3/5

  • Waiting time: 1/5

  • Value for money: 4.0/5

  • Total: 3.5/5

To Take Home

I like Fiverr AI headshots—they offer good value for the money. However, the process is slow, and since you’re working with a real person, it’s not exactly an AI headshot generator.

Also, the results aren’t the absolute best compared to other tools, I’ll admit. But it’s still definitely worth trying, especially if you want customizations and a professional touch!

15. ChatGPT

Then there’s ChatGPT. Since March 2025, you can upload photos of yourself right into the chat, and ChatGPT can modify them.

This makes it a solid option for generating AI headshots.

My Experience

ChatGPT is free, and on the free plan, you can create 3–5 headshots per day.

That makes it the best free AI headshot generator available right now.

The tool doesn’t edit your original images directly—it actually re-generates new ones that resemble you.

I’ve been impressed with the image quality and customization options. That said, I feel the results don’t quite look like me personally.

Just upload your image in the chat and ask ChatGPT to turn it into a professional headshot, a dating profile pic, or a social media photo.

It usually takes just a minute or two—sometimes even less during quieter times—for the AI to create your headshot.

Here’s one of the photos I got:

But to me, it doesn’t quite look like me—and I’ve heard others say the same thing.

The headshots are sharp and customizable, but there’s just something a bit off. What makes it tricky is that many people say ChatGPT’s headshots are the best, but then you don’t actually like how they look.

I have that issue with the headshot above, just as an example.

The image is sharp, the lighting is great, the clothes look cool—but to me, it doesn’t feel like me at all. I’ve seen myself in the mirror enough times to know.

What’s cool about ChatGPT headshots, though, is that you can customize them however you want.

You can either ask ChatGPT to create a new image based on your previous messages and chats, or simply click on your headshot to make direct edits.

These edits are seriously impressive. No other AI headshot generator even comes close. You can literally do anything here.

For example, I asked ChatGPT to put me rowing on the surface of Mars.

This would make a funny social media post—at least, it would if the web wasn’t already flooded with AI-generated stuff.

One thing to remember: the AI doesn’t technically edit your original photos.

Instead, it recreates everything from scratch, trying to keep it as realistic and close to the original as possible. That’s why if you ask for multiple versions in the same chat, the accuracy can start to slip.

Pros:

  • Free for a few headshots per day.

  • Easy to use—just tell the AI what you want, and it delivers.

  • Customizations are incredible, limited only by your imagination.

Cons:

  • The results can look generic and repetitive. After creating 10–20 headshots, you’ll start to notice the same patterns over and over. If someone’s used ChatGPT for their social media photos, you might be able to tell right away.

  • Limited to just a couple of images per day on the free plan—if you only use ChatGPT for AI headshots, the cost of paid plans might not be worth it.

  • Even the paid Pro plan limits you to 10–20 images per month, which is a pretty tight restriction.

Pricing

16. Profilebakery

The next tool on my list is called ProfileBakery.

Just a heads-up—this is one of the last paid tools on the list, and you can really tell from the image quality, which is noticeably lower than most other tools here.

The good news is that it comes with a happiness guarantee.

Anyway, let’s see how it works.

My Experience

First, go to their homepage and click “Start now.”

Here are some of the images that I used. These are real images of me:

Drag and drop the images to the view:

The tool also asks you to upload one “baseline image.” This sets the basic facial expression you’ll have in your final photos.

If you want your output images to show a lot of smiles, make sure to pick a baseline photo where you’re smiling.

After you’ve picked your images, you’ll need to wait. For me, it took about an hour, but for others, it might take 3 to 4 hours.

You don’t have to wait around, though. You can just close the window, and you’ll get an email notification when your images are ready.

When you get the email, you’ll find your AI images stored in a shared Google Drive folder.

For some reason, it feels a bit odd that the images come in a shared Google Drive folder—most other AI tools have their own private libraries built in. But whatever, let’s focus on the image quality.

Here are my favorite images:

The results are decent, but the more I look at them, the more they give off a 3D character vibe.

Feel free to compare them to your original photos and decide for yourself! :)

Pros:

  • Realistic, professional-looking output images.

  • Lots of variety in clothes, poses, and backgrounds.

  • Built-in image enhancement features to fix minor AI glitches.

Cons:

  • Fewer images compared to other tools.

  • The user interface feels a bit like a weekend project, though the results are surprisingly good!

  • Takes longer to process than most other headshot tools.

17. HeadshotMaster.io (Free)

HeadshotMaster.io is a free AI headshot generator that turns your selfies into professional-looking photos.

It offers a variety of styles for resumes, LinkedIn, and more—with no sign-up needed and a focus on privacy.

This tool is similar to the paid headshot generators on this list because it creates new images that look like you. The main difference (besides being free) is that it only needs one photo of you and returns just 4 AI-generated faces.

My Experience

First, you answer simple questions like your gender, age, hair color, eye color, ethnicity, and so on.

Upload an image of yourself to the view.

Wait for a couple of seconds.

After that, you’ll see a set of AI-generated headshots of yourself.

For example, here are some additional headshots of me:

That’s pretty cool for a free tool. But let’s be honest—it doesn’t look exactly like me. When you look closely, it feels more like a 3D-rendered character.

Pros:

  • Fast: you get results in just a couple of minutes.

  • One image only: you only need to upload a single photo, which is much easier than other AI headshot generators that ask for 10–20 photos.

  • Semi-realistic: the AI creates images that resemble me.

Cons:

  • 3D vibe: the photos look more like 3D renders than real pictures.

  • Out of place: some images look completely off, robotic, and don’t really look like me.

18. AIEase (Free)

Let me introduce another cool free AI headshot generator called AiEase.

My Experience:

To create your headshots, all you have to do is pick a style:

Upload an image of you:

After about 10 seconds, you'll get your free AI headshot:

Although, I have to admit, it doesn’t really look much like me. If I’m honest, I’d rate it about 5/10 compared to the paid tools on this list.

Pros:

  • Free: The tool doesn’t cost a thing.

  • Fast: It only takes about 30 seconds.

Cons:

  • Unrealistic: The results aren’t close to how I actually look.

  • Inaccurate: Since it uses only one input image, the output quality isn’t great.

19. HeadshotPro (Free)

Next up is HeadshotPro, a background-swapping tool that uses AI to detect edges and separate you from your photo.

The idea is simple: upload your picture, and this tool quickly turns it into multiple professional headshots with different backgrounds.

Like PFPMaker, which I mentioned earlier, it doesn’t create a new face—it just enhances your existing photo by swapping in new backgrounds.

My Results:

Here’s my favorite before-and-after shot it created:

The lighting looks accurate and realistic.

But honestly, it’s mostly luck—the AI didn’t actually adjust the lighting on my face; it just matched it with a great background from their catalog.

More Results:

You can get more photos like this by choosing different backgrounds from this view:

Noteworthy

This isn’t exactly a headshot generator since it doesn’t create your face. Instead, it uses AI to remove your background and replace it with a new one.

There’s a variety of pre-made backgrounds to choose from, so the process is quick, and you can easily try different options to find one that fits your image.

One downside is that the backgrounds are fixed—you won’t get new ones generated each time you hit “generate.” Basically, it’s more of a background remover and changer than a full headshot generator.

I’ve not graded these background generators since it’s technically not an AI headshot generator.

20. PFPMaker

PFPMaker is an AI tool that helps you create professional profile pictures by swapping out the backgrounds of your images.

It’s free and faster than other tools because it doesn’t generate new photos—it simply removes the background and replaces it with a pre-made one.

Technically, it’s not a headshot generator. But with its powerful AI for background removal, enhancement, and template customization, PFPMaker lets you improve your existing photos, making it perfect for things like LinkedIn profile pictures.

My Results

Here’s the before-and-after result:

My Experience

Using this AI headshot maker is easy and quick.

Upload an image of yourself to the app. You don't even need to sign up for the service:

Wait for 15 seconds.

There are your images:

Noteworthy

Like the previous tool, this one isn’t a true headshot generator—it’s more of a background changer.

Still, it’s worth giving a try if you want to experiment.

By the way, you can edit your images to better match the colors.

To do this, click on an image to open the editor view. The customizer helps your background blend better with the lighting on your skin.

I haven’t rated these background generators since they’re not technically AI headshot generators.

21. Canva Headshot Generator

Canva also offers an AI headshot generator.

But I have to be honest—the spot it holds on this list is well-deserved. The images it creates don’t really look like me at all.

The only reason I included it is because it ranks very high on Google for the “AI headshot generator” search term, and a lot of people use it and get the wrong impression of what the state of the art in AI headshots really is.

Honestly, this is one of the worst tools I’ve tried.

Let me show you the results I got.

My Results:
Canva’s headshot maker is easy to use. Just open Canva, go to Apps, and search for “AI headshot generator.”

Upload your image, pick your gender, and wait:

After about 10 seconds, you’ll get an AI-generated version of yourself.

Exciting! Let’s see what mine looks like…

Here it is:

Umm… I really hope I don’t look like that in real life. That’s just terrible. It reminds me of those over-filtered Instagram photos from around 2010.

Honestly, it felt like a waste of my time.

This kind of result might have been cool five years ago, but now it’s way out of date.

Don’t get me wrong—Canva is usually amazing.

In fact, some of the graphics in this post were made with Canva.

But sometimes, they release apps just to rank high and capture traffic to convert users into subscribers. If there’s not enough demand, they stop updating those tools—like this headshot generator.

Before you go…

AI headshot generators are impressive, but it’s important to keep your expectations realistic—they don’t always get everything right.

These tools use AI trained on huge sets of photos to create headshots based on the images you upload.

The process is fast, way cheaper, and a lot less stressful than hiring a real photographer.

But sometimes the results can look a bit off (like some of the examples I shared earlier).

You might see skin that looks too smooth, an expression that feels stiff, or facial features that don’t look quite like you.

That’s where BetterPic really shines.

Unlike fully automated tools, BetterPic gives you the option for both AI edits and human edits to clean things up.

In my opinion, it’s the best AI headshot maker out there right now.

To wrap this up, here are a few tips to help you get the best headshot for yourself or your team:

Tips for Getting the Best AI-Generated Headshots

If you’re using an AI tool to make your headshot, here are a few simple tips to help you get better results:

  • Upload High-Quality Photos — AI does best with clear, high-resolution pictures. Blurry or pixelated images can end up looking distorted.

  • Use Well-Lit Images — Stay away from harsh shadows or dark lighting, since the AI can have trouble picking up details.

  • Choose a Neutral Expression — A relaxed, natural smile usually works best.

  • Avoid Heavy Filters or Makeup — The AI looks at your real features, so too many edits or filters can confuse it.

  • Upload a Variety of Angles — If the tool allows it, share a mix of front-facing and slightly angled photos to help the AI understand your face better.

  • Check the Background — A clean, simple background helps the AI focus on you instead of distractions.

  • Be Ready to Make Adjustments — AI isn’t perfect. If something looks off, pick tools like BetterPic that offer human edits to fine-tune your headshots. If you want to play it safe, go with a service that includes editing options.

By following these steps, you’ll set yourself up for the best possible results.

Spread The Message!

If you look at where interest in AI headshots is growing, it’s mostly taking off in the US and China. Meanwhile, a lot of Europe and other regions still haven’t really caught on yet.

These tools are really useful, but it feels like a lot of people still don’t know about them.

So if you found this helpful, definitely share it around—let’s make sure it’s not just people in the US and China with those polished LinkedIn photos, but everyone!

I personally love my headshots. Especially for business, I don’t think AI-generated pictures are “cheating.” They’re just a smart way to save time and money.

The Problem with AI Headshots

Of course, I’m not saying that AI headshots are some shortcut to success in the job market or dating world.

But they’re a fun experiment and a real time saver.

Personally, I wouldn’t use AI headshots to pretend I was at real-life events, like weddings or parties.

I think the best use is for business, where it doesn’t really matter what you look like to begin with.

I mean, why pay thousands to hire someone to take your photos, do your makeup, and pick out outfits when you can do it all with AI for way less hassle?

That’s why I love AI headshots. Sure, I have decent photos of myself in my camera roll. But let’s be honest—I’ll never find the time or patience to hire a photographer, especially now that you can get the same result in minutes for a fraction of the price.

But I also understand why some people really don’t like them.

AI headshots aren’t real. They always add something that doesn’t actually belong to you. In that sense, the images are “fake.”

Personally, I don’t think this is an issue in the business world. After all, even traditional headshots are a bit fake—you never really look like that in everyday life anyway.

The bigger problem with AI headshots is that they can look a bit generic. If everyone starts using them, people might instantly spot that they’re AI-generated.

That could even create a trend where folks go back to regular selfies, making polished headshots less valuable.

Or maybe people will stop using profile pictures at all, since AI can fake anything so easily.

Who knows?

But one thing I do know: AI headshots are awesome. They’re new, much cheaper than traditional ones, and still pretty uncommon.

I hope you enjoyed this post and seeing my results. Just remember—your experience might be different. That’s why I suggest trying out a few tools from the list. Most offer refunds if you’re not happy.
