You Don't Have to Feel Ready

You're waiting to feel ready.

For the talk, the role,
the project that scares you a little.

Let me save you some time:
the feeling isn't coming first.

Ready is not a mood you wait for.
It's a thing you become
about ten minutes into doing the scary thing.

The people you think are fearless
felt exactly what you're feeling.
They just stopped treating the nerves
as a stop sign.

Confidence is not the fuel.
It's the exhaust —
the thing you produce
by acting before you feel it.

Do the thing while afraid.
The readiness shows up on the far side.

It always does. Ask anyone honest.
