Flying with Your Dog on a Private Jet: What You Need to Know in 2026

Traveling with a large dog on commercial flights means one thing: cargo. For dogs over 8 kg, most European airlines require the animal to travel in the hold, separated from the owner, in a crate, often for hours.

Private jet charter works differently. When you charter a private jet, you rent the entire aircraft. Your dog flies in the cabin with you, regardless of size or breed. No weight limits. No cargo stress.

What it actually costs

The cost of bringing your dog on a private jet is typically zero extra. You pay the charter price for the aircraft. On short DACH-region routes (Germany, Austria, Switzerland), prices start around 4,800 euros one-way on a Very Light Jet. On popular routes like Munich to Mallorca, expect 9,500 to 13,000 euros for a Light Jet.

Occasionally, operators charge a small cleaning fee (50 to 200 euros) if the dog sheds heavily. That is the exception.

Documents your dog needs

For EU travel: an EU pet passport, a valid microchip (ISO 11784/11785), and a current rabies vaccination. The vaccination must have been administered at least 21 days before entry if it is the first one.

For the UK (post-Brexit): the EU pet passport no longer suffices. You need an Animal Health Certificate (AHC) issued not more than 10 days before entry.

Which jet size for large dogs?

Small dogs under 10 kg fit comfortably in any jet class. For dogs over 25 kg, a Midsize or larger jet is the right choice. Ask your broker for the cabin dimensions of the specific aircraft before booking.

3 things to do before booking

  1. Tell the broker your dog's breed and weight at the first inquiry. Some operators have restrictions on brachycephalic breeds (bulldogs, pugs) due to altitude breathing risks.
  2. Check your dog's documents at least one week before the flight. An expired vaccination can cancel the trip.
  3. Skip the meal three hours before the flight for dogs prone to motion sickness. Water is fine.

Private jet travel with a dog is not a budget option. But if your dog is large, if you travel frequently, or if a cargo hold flight genuinely stresses your animal, it is the only comfortable alternative.
