In my opinion, the best donation for developers would be 'Buy me time'. Not a real purchase; If it saves you time with the code it will write, experience it will transfer or a job it will do, it has bought time for you.
Maybe an experience in life or business life can be gifted as a donate.
Awesome idea, i would like to use this idea of yours with small adjustments without changing it's meaning.
Maybe a button labeled "Give me a hand" and an input would do the job.
